To You, Mum

I found this, a poem about spring for Mother´s Day I made at school, the teacher took pics and this was the result... - I hated to get taken a pic of me even then!
As always you can click all pics to enlarge, if you like to.

The poem goes:

"A bouquet of sweet woodruff

white and green
is my bouquet
nice, and humble
it looks like

fresh from the woods
it came to you
please, smell
it´s really nice

Take! A piece of Spring
it is
To you, Mum,
lots of happiness and joy

your Iris, 11.5.1980"

I will have to ask my Brother. When sorting our parent´s stuff in 2012 (after also Mum sadly had to leave us, darn cancer, you!) we found a Mother´s Day card painted by my Dad in my name, and take that literally!

In the early 70´s the name "Iris" was a bit popular, there was one other girl in class with that name.
Since, surprise, I was smaller, they called me Isi, pronounced "easy". Not fun times when we learned the English language, but it stuck with me for a long time... (In German my name is pronounced like Lake Eyre, like "Eyre-s", with a harsh "r"...)
LOL, as if "Hathi" is better, and this time it was my own "fault", too ;-)
But, Ella, I managed to not brake anything for... say... quite a while!

People always assume my name is due to the flower, but it is not - and that I am proud of.

I was an accident. Mum once said if I didn´t happen she´d left my Dad.
Some weight on my shoulders (again), huh.
Many women back then went to Denmark to get rid off ... that "thing" in them.
My Mum did not, and then... A girl! :-(

Not welcomed much at all back then, but my Dad was proud, and he loved me when I was really little.
So many pictures, movies...

My Dad was an optometrist, hence my name!

There must´ve been an argument or two, he painted a flower (Iris) to Mother´s day 1974.

So. To all Mums right, a happy Mother´s day!

I miss you, Mum. And Dad, you, also.

The strawberry-plants you picked with me when I was two...

And certainly Henry loves this Sibling, too:

Cheers, to all you Mums out there!

River, what? LOL, thank you, I guess. Her nose is like huge and mine stayed the one I had as a kid. As my Brother and his Daughters...
But I got maybe some genes of Mum, also :-)

This tribute is so much beautiful and touching Iris! Thank you also for telling us how to pronounce your name the correct way in German. That poem you wrote is just amazing! I'm not a very good poet, honestly, and at a young age, those words are so beautiful and filled with meaning and shows how you love your mom! That photo that your teacher took is a treasure! You know how I love old photos and find them very precious!

Happy Mother's day to our dear Moms in heaven!

Stevenson, the poem is from someone else, not by me, I was 8 years old back then ;-)
And my translation might be not really good! Just the meaning. But the woodruff was real at least!

To our Moms in heaven!
Hubby is 7+ years older than me and talks to his right now. She is fit! AS his Dad.

Stevenson, you´re welcome.
Yes. It feels... hmmm.

MIL said I´m her Daughter now, too, the day my Mum was buried.

Ingo called today and she wanted to speak to me also.

She keeps her word and I am thankful.
Hope you find that soon, too!

I can't imagine your mom was that disappointed when you were born. Yes boys were important then, at least in my family, but my mom still loved me even if it didn't seem like it. At times. I love this card you found and the pronunciation lesson. Hugs-Erika

What a lovely story about your name. I used to have an elderly friend named Iris, and she was named after the flower (sadly, she left us a long time ago). Hugz xx

My friend, Florence, named her daughters Iris and Heather after the flowers. I think it's nice.

Erika, well, yes, she did love me. I don´t have children, but reckon you love them, boy or girl.
I´m used to react to my name pronounced in different languages :-) Hugs from here

Your post is very touching Iris, it is full of pure feelings and a lot of love towards your parents, and it is very valuable. You keep very good memories of your mother, and of your father too, and you will always remember them, as I remember my father.
I hope you are well, and I wish you a nice week, take good care of yourself.
Big hugs,
Caty

What a beautiful tribute to your mother. I'm sure she's smiling in heaven knowing how much you love and miss her, dear Iris.

Caty, I read your Mum is at least still around?
They are not really gone as long as they stay in our hearts, right.
A nice week to you and big hugs! Iris

Dear Elizabeth I somehow hope so, too!
