Henry´s Siblings And Their Story

I got some of Henry´s Siblings from around the world, America, Ireland, and also from Germany, Düsseldorf, "just" 400 km away, some Lions still wait in line, some on my phone even, as I lost my dongle!

These who visit today have a rather bitter-sweet story, they made their way from the Netherlands to me.

Some 30 years ago Ella came from Romania to the Netherlands - whilst her Brother went to the United States, and she´d never seen him since.
I could never imagine to not see my Brother again, he´s my best friend. Well, as Ingo is, certainly! Does a Hubby count as best friend?

Oh, wait, a dumb question, I have to sneak this in!

Sure Hubby is my friend, we promised each other!

You wanna cry? Ella´s Brother is no more at all.
But she feels truly Dutch now and certainly has her family right there.
Well, as right there as you can have with "Corinna" being around...

30+ years backwards after just having arrived Ella got a visit from her neighbour, a curious lady in her 80´s.

Oh, just like mine who now is in a nursing home after strokes, heart attack and having Alzheimer´s. She is nice also, but sooo curious ;-)

Ella´s neighbour spoke no English and Ella no Dutch back then.
Or rather even "gronings", a dialect spoken in the northern province, Groningen.

Thanks for hands and feet, right?
It worked! A dictionary helped, too ;-)

Sadly that sweet lady after a few months got sick and also had to go to a nursing home.
And she knew she won´t come back, she´ll die in there.

Just as my neighbour, btw. So sad to see it happen everywhere...

Ella´s neighbour asked her over to say a final goodbye.

Two "lepeltjes"* she gave her, silver coffee spoons, that virtually made it over here now.

Have a look, what´s written beneath the heads of these guys... ummmm... some respect here, right?! .. beneath this man and woman!

And whilst Ella had been looking out for Lions outside for visiting Henry here, she found only ugly ones or some with darn copyright on it, but one morning she was cleaning these special spoons... et voilà:

LIONS!!!

Henry is hounoured and gladly welcomes his Siblings here.
Thank you, Ella, for sharing. A little BIG hug to you xoxo

As an explanation: I live in the City of Henry The Lion...
He is friendly, loyal and welcomes any Sibling, male or female, via flaviakaiser@gmx.de :-)

* We call "lepeltjes" > "Löffelchen", sounds even similar!

Iris, I don;t know if you know but I get so emotional whenever I hear touching stories and Ella's and her neighbor's story is just very beautiful. I had to pause before I write this comment, that is such a beautiful friendship they had! And to be able to be given something to special that has Groningen on it, it feels like even if she was born in Romania, it's very symbolic just like how the neighbor is telling her that she is very welcome and now a part of their city. Oh Iris thank you so much for sharing this. Makes my heart happy.

And thank you very much for telling me about Henry! From now on I will be on a lookout for his siblings and will send them to you! Saved your email on my phone!

Hugs my dear friend! Weekend soon!

Oh, Stevenson, yes, same here, when Ella e-mailed me her story I was very touched, too, so I asked her if I may share.
And to learn it made you happy is even more a reward.

And Henry sure would love some siblings from your place, too! As do I.
Funny how a tiny idea can spread around the world, is it!
Hugs back to you, dear friend!

It´s a true "story". Feel free toask Ella personally, I just was so touched I wanted to share it.
And the pieces from our wedding are real, too.

Shame on me ... I got lost in the house ...
You know ... vacuuming, washing windows, changing bedding ... I didn't open my laptop today ... luckily the phone that announced me some messages ...
How nice that Henry is playing with his siblings from Groningen ... This story is bitter/sweet for me ... beautiful memories but also the harsh reality of life!
I'm sorry to respond so late! Thank you for being my friend!
I'll be online again tomorrow! A little BIG hug for my Hathi! ♡

Iris Flavia said...

Shame on me - I still did not do the windows! ;-)
Yes. It is bitter-sweet and I thank you for allowing me to share.
I may be a Hathi, but in my mind and heart I don´t destroy that much ;-)
A little BIG hug to you and don´t you worry - blogging is no job, it´s supposed to be fun, right! xoxo

Bill, it´s a real story, well, both. Ella´s and our´s, we got married in Perth, that´s why it´s in English.

Hopefully BBQ-weather tomorrow!

Jeanie, also in Ella´s name, I guess I might say, you´re welcome to join us.
Yes, her story touched me obviously very much, also...

How nice to have lions from the Netherlands. It is the national symbol. The coat of arms has two lions opposite each other. Both with a sword and a fist of quivers. And underneath the motto: Je Maintiendrai (I shall maintain).
And the story about Ella is great. And the lepeltjes from Groningen. Yes, They have a very particular accent up there.
Thanks, you made my day.
Have a lovely weekend,
Hugs (yes, the virtual ones are allowed),
Lisca
