It´s Christmas (Soon)

For "one" night? Every day!

This is one of Freddie Mercury´s interpretations of Christmas.
One night?
He was so smart and the song is so up to date.
Yet sweet, turn on the sound, please.

Here we had the rest of more than one day, but not a year.

The 24th...

My parents got out their "golden" glasses to share sparkling wine with their fellow co-workers (now you say "staff" and for some it´s but "stuff").
I have to ask my Brother if he still has the glasses and if he shares the tradition.

Back then it was "Mr. and Mrs, K", of course, these days it´s H, but still the official "Sie".

I am simply Iris and used to walk in, shouting "it´s  OK (schon gut)", so no one had to get away from their work (bell ringing when entereing).
They did anyways, to give me a hug, all of them, and a kiss on the cheek, they still were like family.
That was pre-Corinna, of course - and it will be the same again soon!!!

WE will "be OK"! (I was a "good girl", ALWAYS, I swear! 😁)
Every day! Freddie was right.

25th. Goose. Hmmmm.
Here you see my Dad,I think it was Christmas?
(For Christmas my parents warmed up the house, hence the short/thin clothes)

It took Mum like forever and ever and it was so yummy, once a year!
My Brother "later" tried it once and said, "woah, too much trouble!" (plus... well... Mum did a better job!).

26th.. YUMMIEST leftovers (with a Dad like that, leftovers, how???).

But once I moved out it was the first two days only - and it was not that I wanted to come by, either, I had to.
Now I regret this. That I didn´t go on my own and every day.
Too late.

And Ella just reminded me of Wichteln.
We had "Schrott-Wichteln" - get rid of stuff you don´t need anymore, but liked and was useful.
Our teamleader back then came up with this... once (for a reason only once!).

My dear colleague S was refilling the car - a huge Volvo - whilst I wrapped up our "junk" in  newspaper on the way to the party. He wanted to go inside to pay, was nearly there, but saw...
You know, the wrapping makes some noise, plus he´d left the radio on, as usual for me.

I did not hear him scream and shout.

The junk, me and the Volvo were heading softly to a wall cause he forgot to activate the handbreak.

Rolling, rolling, rolling...! Gets another meaning!
He ran and hit the car, which I heard, I managed to stop juuuuust in time.
Boy, we could´ve "announced" some junk!
The car was really an expensive one, too.
And he made sure I have it anytime he was not with me.
Sadly we lost contact.

He´s a Dad now, and hopefully happy, if I had an address I would send... I don´t have, but to you: A Happy Christmas Time, even in Lockdown.

Henry 🦁...

He´s a bit in the mood despite he´s lonely this year... BUT... see the light? Someone must be home in "his" castle. Is it Henry 🤴?

Hope you are getting/are into the mood, also.

It's always nice to look back at Christmas past. I enjoyed your take on this season and loved that large tree.

Thank you, Bertiebo. Some memories... I thought that "Santa" was real.... Huhhh....

Elizabeth, thank you. That tree was secured, but the candles were real and I was always afraid it could catch fire (it NEVER did).

I'd never heard that Queen song before now, it's very nice. I like your Christmas clothes, I remember similar outfits when my sister and I were very small, just in Australia a short while, my mum had photos of us in "traditional" clothes, little aprons over our dresses. Those things soon gave way to shorts and T-shirts in the Australian summers.

Oh, My Friends, it’s been a long hard year! - Got that right! Who knew this song would be so prophetic when it written? This is the Christmas song for Christmas 2020!
Oh, My Love ... 1977! What an year! I was 17 and my love was in the army ...
Oh. My Friends ... How good the time was for the corona, and is bad, because now we realize what a free life we had !!!
Oh, My Baby ... You were a very good girl! Sweets for my sweet, sugar for my honey ... so were you!
Li'l big hug for you! xoxo

River, I should´ve said that... these clothes were from a short holiday in Austria! Where was your date from, near that?
Shorts and T-Shirts are my liking, too!

Oh, Ella, yes! Funny we both grabbed this song and you are right it is 2020! Is Freddie maybe just around the corner?

In the army, oh, how frightening. Ingo joined Bundeswehr (before we were together) and was so looking forward to Kromberre in South Germany. To find out. That´s potato, LOL!!!
My dear Ella, we WILL be free again. We WILL travel, we WILL do all that again, I am SURE.
Li'l big hug for you! xoxo 🦋

These memories are just so sweet to look back at dearest Iris! OMG, You are so right, I am just like your father especially that we don't have much leftovers here really especially when I love the dish HAHAHA And oh my you are just the cutest little doll dear Iris!!!

Iris Flavia said...

Dearest Stevenson, LOL, I live on leftovers these days (though it´s yummy, my cooking has become real good, ask Ingo!).
Nah, no doll. This was a dress from Austria I was "forced" to wear on special occasions. The socks were scratchy, too, LOL.

Such lovely memories Iris, thank heavens for photographs 💜 Second time I've heard the Queen, love it more each time 😊 My new header shot was taken back in February before Covid, but I can see why it freaked, not only you, out a bit 😀

Beautiful song of course and great for our times.
Somehow my parents never took many photos of us, I've never seen one from Christmas.
Cute photos of you in your Austrian dirndl.

Iris, I love this post so much. It's wonderful to hear of your family traditions and memories. What a darling little one you were -- that tree pic makes me smile. No, they ALL make me smile and very big! And I loved that song. Be sure and add that one to the comments on my Christmas music post. I didn't have that one listed!

I have never eaten goose, but I have eaten duck. Wonder if they taste the same. As for the car rolling back, wow! That would have ended in disaster had it hit the wall.

Your dad is very handsome and you were so darn cute. I love the music from Queen. Have a very nice day.

I like that view of Henry.

What a lovely little outfit. I don't mind wild goose, the tame ones is little more fatty then I like. I watch a you tube video on what queen Victoria of England ate for her Christmas meal. The poor people ate goose and to be honest the wealthy meal didn't sound all that great.
Coffee is on and stay safe

Kathy, you´re welcome, hugs from herer!

Grace, yes, especially in these days old pics are doing good. Yupp, funny how Freddie was so up to date back then!
Yes, at first glance your banner does that, but it would as well without the virus - too many people too close for my liking...

____

Sami, yes, crazy, is it. What was back then that the song suits us todady, HIV?
You have not one pic from Christmas?! I even have films...
To be honest I hated that outfit, felt like a costume!

____

Tom, I deeply hope you mean Christmas! ;-)

____

Jeanie, well! If I´d been a darling I wouldn´t have looked soo fearful at Santa! ;-)
But I´m glad I could make you smile! Off to your post, I´ll be happy to add the song!

____

gigi, duck tastes more... "wild", bitter. As for the car, luckily it was forward and even more luckily really slow. That´s why I didn´t feel it in all the rustling newspaper :-)
I´ll never forget this, must´ve looked funny!

____

Nicole, thank you, well my Dad looks rather like a huge carnivore in that pic :-)

____

Bill, yes to all three!

____

William, he is a beauty!

____

Dora, well, I hated it, but it seems it made everyone else happy.
My Mum let the goose sit in the oven for hours and hours so all the fat got out. Interesting about the rich and poor, too!
