I got snail mail from the South.
From dear River, thank you so much, you gave me a huge smile after a tough day!
And what I saw first... railway, what else?! 🤣I´ve never been in Glenelg, as far as I know.
But there is a really nice stretch of a beach!
Adelaide, oh, we only rushed through in 1995 - we had but 6 months and the flight back to Germany was already booked as I took off only one semester of studying.
This is all what I took as pics...
See, 1995... real film-cameras. Expensive...
My right arm certainly liked the Koala-card 🥰
In 2013 I touched one in Caversham Wildlife park - their fur has an amazing texture!
And in Perth Zoo we saw a mama with her baby looking out into the world, awwww...
Next two cards made me laugh.
See. Ingo and I were together for about 6 months only when we took off to Australia.
I imagined the red country! Was so excited about it!
Internet?! What is that?! Buying books, nahhh, Ingo has been there already (not telling me about all the terrible insects, luckily! I would´ve stayed home!).
We landed in Sydney, the main capital of Australia (KIDDING!!!!!) and took off direction South.
We lived in the car, were on our backs 23/7 hence (6 months together, remember?).
And I was rather disappointed, no red at all.
Barossa Valley... all green and such and then.
Then!!!!!
See, I grew up in Seesen, which is 8km away from Mechtshausen.
To my shock we entered ... well Hahndorf.
Just to find cherry trees ... and... Wilhelm Busch!!!!
The more or less famous humorist, poet, illustrator, and painter lived in Münchehof, 8km from Seesen.
I nearly cried in disappointment - THIS is Australia?!!!!
See, the man is the author of Max and Moritz for example, children´s books as rhymes - Ingo can still recite some.
LOL, not one, but TWO postcards from there!
Help me, Ronda!
Luckily we found "the RED" after all. But my first journey to Australia really had a rough start (did I mention insects?).
Some last words:
River, you made my day and chapeau to your handwriting!
I sometimes sit in panic cause I cannot read what I wrote down in a meeting.
Takes time and is sometimes plain useless!
I try to come up with something for you (all) but my job really tires me out PLUS! I skipped sport just to sit on the balcony and read that wonderfully funny book.
Summer is arriving - does this count as excuse?
I am at it, though, cause nothing is better than making surprises, right?
A certain pirate-bear is still in waiting position here, too.

I'm glad the postcards arrived safely. I'm glad you eventually found the "red" Australia, there is a lot of it, just not near the eastern or southern coastlines. I like Handorf a lot, especially the bakeries, and my brother likes the beers. I haven't been there since before Covid.
The railway to Glenelg is actually a tramline and a much quicker way to get there than by bus and no need to find a parking space.
Your real film photos look like the Funland that was at the top of the Myer building. It was a fairly new thing and didn't last very long. A couple or a few years after it opened, someone jumped from the balcony, so a net was put across a couple of floors down, but it all closed eventually and now there is nothing up there.
Yes, atm I´m working for 2 trams here, one in Frankfurt, Germany and the other somewhere in Denmark.
In Perth we also prefer the tram to the bus.
Oh, so sad about the Shopping Center! We were fascinated!
I like Adelaide :) Jose worked on a project there years ago and he lived in Glenelg just a block away from the beach. I used to fly there maybe every 2nd week. We visited Hanhdorf too, cute town.
Wow, must´ve been great to live near the beach. FIFO not so much, though... Or any form of weekend-relationship for that matter, never again!
...you had quite an adventure!
We both posted about Australia today 😸
Tom, yes :-)

RedPat, yes, yes a dream-destination that became true in time!
Fun to get some postcards in the mail and have them from one of your favorite places. Hopefully soon (maybe) you'll get to go back. I'm sure you'd love to. Hugs-Erika
I live so close to Australia but have never been there. I'm not keen on some of their wild critters, but I have family there I would love to visit. Maybe one day :)
I remember real film cameras... sure didn't take as many photos back then as I do now!!
Erika, well, the South is not "my" Australia, but it was funny to see Hahndorf. Back then it was a huge disappointment, LOL!
Yes, some day we´ll go back - to teh West :-) Hugs
____
Margaret, the darn critters are still worth a visit!
It´s a great country and you really can just "hop over" :-)

Spare Parts and Pics, if we had this technology we have today back then.... PIC GALORE!
I can tell how much you love Australia and it's wonderful that you and Ingo discovered this territory together. What fabulous memories you have. Someday we'll be able to travel again and feel comfortable with it. (Real mail is the best!)
I've been to Hahndorf, I also have real photos of it from a real camera with real expensive film haha. It's funny though, even though we took less photos we seemed to look at them more than we do now when we take 1000s of them. I bought some pottery in Hahndorf, I still have it! Visiting from the link on T Day Elle/EOTC xx
