Do You Play Video Games? Knit?

(Black) Friday 08:00 a.m. we got very bad news via teams.
And one dude really asked about more money!!!

fK called me afterwards to reassure me as she knew I have a present-meeting at 11:00 at the company.
My new teamlead fE hugged me big (we know each other personally since two years).

I could make clear why  the company is so important to me, could give examples of how we help each other, that melted the Railway-boss´s heart mM so much he hugged me twice very big - he sat by my side.

Maybe also... I didn´t really cry, but I couldn´t stop the tears coming...

Why ever for the engineering part I came up with the loo I had for a week - that convinced them totally that I really am into engineering.
So much technology in such a small place, that is engineering art!
Told them that Ingo keeps presenting me with trains and trams...

mM said I am a very good engineer and fit into the company, they will do EVERYTHING to keep me or get me back.

LOL he said "Ingenieurin" - the female form. I said "you can leave out the "in". He laughed his head off, as he hates this genderizing as much as I do.
What more info gives you "Kolleg:innen" etc. This is NONSENSE.
In fact my old company on my wish wrote the male format, "Diplom-Ingenieur" - ha!
fK though... calls me Ingenieurin.

For now I am on hold and to enjoy the time.
I get my money, I will do further training and check in every working day if there are news.
And mM told me to come to the cinema-event in Wolfenbüttel.
I hate cinema, but there is a Döner place for us and I may find new chances/colleagues.
Also fK will pick me up and bring me back.
She also said, even if I lose this job she´ll stay my friend...
Before she said, "I see you here till retirement". Well, that would still be 15 years or such, likely more.

They were happy to know that fK was on the way to pick me up, that friendships evolved in the company DESPITE I work(ed) 100% from home.

mM, looked me in the face, "how old are you actually?" - "...52." - "WHAT?!!! Me also.... when´s your birthday??" - "January." - "Then you are older than me!!!!"
I thought he is "much" older than I am.

For good bye he gave me the kiss-guesture - and I am to keep all the gear: two large monitors, Laptop, keyboard, mouse, headset, Smartphone and token.

fK and I sat outside with our Braunschweig-Döner (I found last time I was at our company) for over an hour in only 6C / 42F.... (inside is just a small board were you sit side by side). Boy was I freezing.
More hugs (plural!).
Man, this was hugging-day for sure!!
(I never was a hugger, but reckon I am now).

At home I remembered I still have to finish the month, the keyboard had a problem, called mT.
He told a top-secret and I promised at the end  I´ll not tell anybody. "Tell anybody what? I haven´t said anything....".
See, why I wanna stay? We HELP one another! Yet, that info was... not good...

I then had to see my doc (nothing serious), they saw I am not doing well and wanted to know it all and reassured me, too.
Obviously I cannot fake. And I think this is GOOD. We are humans with feelings.

Well,  it was indeed "Black Friday"!
The city was packed to the brim, it was horrible!!!

I do not play video games or knit, I will get up at 05:00 anyways, I have time on Tuesday to bake Pizza-muffins for the ESE-Christmas event (they stuck to my idea with the BYO and being in-house from the actually cancelled summer-party - how cool is that!). Other I have a bunch to do, and training is one of it!

Thanks to everybody who wished me luck. Economy is down, but there is a little chance I can stay!
Sorry this was so long, it needed to get out. ESE is the best company...

Iris, I think this is the first time I've learned this -- did I miss something? It sounds to me like you are on a temporary lay-off? Still being paid, keeping equipment and your marvelous team is already missing you and hoping you will be back, as do your leaders? I hope you'll be back, too, and that this is just a short respite till a new project comes along for you. I know how much you love working with this group and from what you describe, they are a marvelous gang to have as colleagues. They certainly seem to love you. So hang in there -- I suspect the new year will bring you good things. Big hugs.

Thank you, Jeanie. A lot. On Friday fK thought it#´s a 50/50 chance a new project is there but economy is down, there is nothing.
I could cry my soul out and feel so alone right now.
I hope, too, the new year brings a project and I can stay with the wonderful colleagues/friends and interesting stuff.
I really thought we are strong but we lost project after project cause the supposed-customers ran out of money. Thank you for another big hug!!!

If they are keeping you on and paying you that means they want you. That is good news, but I know, not fantastic news. Fantastic news would be they have a job for you to be busy with. I hope there is a new project very very soon so you can get busy. But I am sorry to read that you are on hold. You know it isn't you, just the economy. Keep looking up. I hope work comes back very soon. :) hugs-Erika

...Do I Play Video Games? Knit? No and No! Employment concerns are always a problem, but at the holidays, it's worse. Iris, you are in my thoughts.

This is indeed almost good news, and definitely a group that gives you moral support with all the hugs! I know the economic outlook is grim all over, but hope that engineers are needed...of course they are always! Good ole' English doesn't do any gender identifiers on names of things, so you are equal in that regard! Maybe learn to knit! (tee hee)

What Erika said!

Thank you, Erika, this is not me. On hold and payed is not good, I feel"guilty", despite it is not my fault. I do try to think positive but it is so dark everywhere.... hope you are right, thank you, hugs!

Thank you, Christine...

Boss wanted to know if I can keep myself busy. He meant to say: "Enjoy the time off".
I am sorry to bother you and I am thankful you are there, Tom.

I was the most boring teenager. I did knit, LOL. Sweaters with horses even...
I think you´d get a headache if you read what´s going on with gender identifiers here.
m/f/d and so on. Love your tee hee!

I´m done and dusted... I have at least 15 years to go, not only till end of March...

Yes. I wished I had LOADS of work tomorrow! For a customer. So I bring in money...

Well, it sounds like they really want to keep you and don't want to risk you going somewhere else so hopefully it all works out, Iris. A big hug to you. ;-)

Employers know a good worker when they see one. So, hang in there until a project comes along and it will. :-)

I SO hope you are right, RedPat!!! Thank you for the hug! I give one back...

You might be surorised to learn how many people in Australia and probably elsewhere too, have no work, so sit at home or in offices doing nothing and getting paid. For years! Mostly government positions I think. every once in a while there is an article in the newspaper about this. So don't feel guilty.
I don't do video games, I am too slow, by the time I work out what I am supposed to do the game is over already. No knitting either. I read books, a little gardening.

Iris Flavia said...

Oh, really. It is weird times. You made me "laugh out loud" (ok, I giggled) about being too slow, playing, count me in!
Yes, I am told to not feel guilty, but I still do.
Well, I´ll need to bake. They made an official list... Funny enough, I a, not the only "not-sweet-person"! More salty snacks from colleagues are on the way!

I wish you luck in soon returning to real work. Meanwhile, try to enjoy the time for yourself. Why not? This same thing happend to me once, except that the layoff was without a chance to return. By the time the salary ended, I did find a new job. So I hope the same for you.
