And It Happened That Way

Oh, my goodness.

We were in Broome.

Where you find the oldest open air cinema IN THE WORLD.

"Life is beautiful" was on.

In the original language which means: In Italian.

I do not speak it and thought, beautiful, now I have to read subtitles through a whole movie!.

Italian spoken, English subtitles, I´m German and after just a minute I simply watched a movie - the brain is an amazing thing!

And then....

The German officer screamed that those who don´t follow the rules... I don´t wanna say, you know what happened.

And the Dad translated it (subtitled) into .... gets no gummy bears!!!!.

The German part was not translated and Ingo and I were the only ones who gurgled in disgust.
And all heads near us turned around.

Being German can be hard, I tell ya.

Yes, that´s what happened. I do not make it up.

And such a coincidence (I really just realised).
This date...
On TV we get this (9/11) or Hit#er...

AS when we were invited by a group of men in Moon and Sixpence and one was really drunk and started seriously about Holocaust :-(
I told him my parents were kids and I´m not even 100% German and the others SO told him off.
We had a nice evening after that and were even taken home by a sober wife (as they lived nearby).

Still fighting the war, aren't we (as a collective, not individuals.) It was horrible and a lot of people were forced into doing something they didn't want to do or feel. We must ALWAYS remember what happened but be very careful about blame -- especially as it affects the younger generations. I'm sorry you had that experience.

Thank you, Jeanie.
My whole family was not involved (my Dad´s Father was the only watchmaker in town and hence did not join, the other "Grandfather" was not German).
And so many were just forced to "join" other their families were threatened.

These days, huh? And it´s always men!!! It never stops! So sad. Even if we would like to forget it goes on and on....

The good thing in this story was that it was only ONE of the group that was an idiot and you did end up having a nice evening.. there's always going to be that one idiot in most circumstances unfortunately 😑

Yes, Grace, that is true - see the positive, right!

You were almost sitting on the floor with those chairs, lol.
There's always someone can can get out of line and blame the young generation who has nothing to do with what happened ages ago.

Lois, well, that guy was drunk....

Sami, yes, sitting like on the ships back then, no?
Some people are just dumb. Or alcohol makes them aggressive...
