T This Last Promising Week

With this happy drink I join Elizabeth´s T for week 16.

The journal - which reflects the past week - I say this because some of you thought last T-Day I was sick but that´d been the week before that - on the pages you see the date of the actual day - I took the idea from a fellow blogger we sadly lost years ago:

Monday: Went out this morning - late, 9 a.m.-ish - and it was so cold my ears nearly fell off and I could see my breath.
The postie was here 12:15, yippee as in 12:35 I wanted to leave for my 01:00 p.m-appointment, the darn mammography.
The lady was supernice, told me all the time, "you´re doing great". And where my second name is from? I said, "my Dad expected my hair´ll turn reddish. Also he was an optometrist (Iris)". Yupp, my Mom hadn´t much to say here...
And, typical German: 01:07 I was back in the street!
Bro called. Two of their pets lost their lives.... I spare you details... Fun names of the living, one is called Dr. Gonzo.

Tuesday: At REWE, "checkout"-Bea: "I cannot even speak German here!!!"
Your opinion on this I´d like to know: Should people who stay here longer, or forever, should be forced to speak German?
fK came over for my apple-cake and re-planted my Christmas-amaryllis. She even managed to keep wax-Santa.

Thursday she plans to speak with fE personally.
Having "grown up" in a men´s world it´s a bit odd to have female leaders now. But fK may become one of mine, too.

Wednesday: Went to Rewe and had a nice chat with Bea. Gave my best to portrait Dad for Nicole´s challenge on FFO.... Huhhh. Challenge is the word!
So fun to see "Harry" in "Death in Paradise".

Thursday: fK worked in the office today. Just before she wanted to meet fE (future boss) on my behalf mK popped by  - huge coincidence, I´ve worked for him before. When he heard I want to come back he was happy and said he´s just about to get a new project and he wants: me!!!
There is still another project to come for me. Please, I want to work for mK!!!
fK then had her yearly appointment - spontaneous -  with mM with whom I talked about batteries in trains, he knows I was in the Fortescue-team, he explained the heating in the office to me and also helped with the agency for work - I asked fK to say hi to him.

What a day!! Nothing settled yet and maybe it will take till June, but so what?! Or rather: Yippee!!! fK told fE I didn´t make contact cause I didn´t want to go on her nerves and she was very happy about that, too! Oh, wish me luck!

My calendar-page:

"Don't demand that things go as you wish, but wish them to go as they will, and your life will flow smoothly." Epictetus

Friday: A slow day. Sometimes you just have an ear for others.

Weekend: Saturday: 1709 steps I took when taking the gear off. A mini-yippee. Hardware-stores and stuff. Being a woman and having the article by number helps. I felt bad for the man who was actually in front "row"..

Sunday: Rainy, lazy day. Löwenzahn, Maus, Fairy tale....

Munchy .. of course...

This is my first baked cake!
Maybe the last, too, my sweet tooth went into hibernation again!
Though, plan: 28th eat up the rest! Me a bit, fK the rest... Ingo sadly has no interest, but that´s OK.

 Henry 🦁

 Happy T-Day!

That was a cozy blog, although I never understand everything you write. That lion at the end is fantastic. Oh and yes, I think that foreigners who settle in your country, or in my country, should learn the language.

Sorry I´m unclear at times?
Yes, learn the language, huh. When being there longer...

I was wondering how your cake came out. I think it looks delicious. Sorry it was too sweet. And it is cold at my house this morning too! Below 0 degrees C...that's way too cold for April. Ha ha, I love the I hear you journal page. I hope you are having a super T day. hugs-Erika

I love apple cake like that! But I love most sweets. Have a good week.

Spring, RedPat, we´re supposed to have Spring!

To apples then :-)

We might get some snow tomorrow! 🤬That cake looks absolutely delicious. When baking, can you cut the amount of sugar in your recipe without sacrificing the texture? Also, can you freeze the cake to have or send some to W? I wish I lived closer! Happy T Day and Hals and Beinbruck with the job. 🍀🎩🍄🐷

We've gone from too cold to almost too hot! I don't want to complain. I've been longing for the sun for so long!
It's nice that you are still in touch with you ex-colleagues (I assume they are as all those initials confuse me).
Yes, I think foreigners that settle should try to learn the language but to force them would be too harsh and not possible. Language school might be compulsory but you can never force someone to learn if they don't want. I have always learnt the language of the country I lived in. I am fluent in Italian and Spanish, two of my adopted home countries.
Your cake looks lovely. What a shame you don't like sweet things. Or perhaps it's good as I really have trouble trying to lose weight as I love cake!
What a great photo of Henry. He's good enough to eat!
Happy T-Day,
Lisca

There was no added sugar, just cinnamon and yes, I froze it... for fK! Oh, yes, it would be fun to share some for real - if you come to Germany... visit here, please! I´ll bake a fresh one! Thank you I need the luck! 😍

The work thing sounds promising. I don't think anyone should be forced to learn the new country's language and use it all the time, but I would hope they would learn a few basics, the kind of thing so that they can get around. Some languages make sense to a foreigner (for example, the Romance languages are fairly easy to move from one to another) but others require very different sounds, mouth and vowel placements, sentence structures and unless one is there a very long while, it might be close to impossible. Forcing is never good.

The m stands for "male" and the f for, well, "female" - other it´s their first letter, easy as that :-)
Well ... hm. People from other countries who stay here for long should at least speak English. But no, they get "translators" here - on our tax-money. That´s not right, in my eyes. When I need help I have to pay for it.
Top-noch-problems, huh?

Iris Flavia said...

Hmmm, OK. They take our tax-money whilst retirees struggle... something is not right here in Germany. When you take you should give, too. But maybe I am old-fashioned. If they at least spoke English, which is universal, but not even that. That does not go for all but most... Forcing is never good, I agree. But some expect women to wear ... well... I was called a whore cause I wore no hat. That hurts. As said, not all are like that!

Same in Australia, immigrants get government sponsored translators, which is fine to begin, but after, I think they should make an effort to learn English, at least enough to manage without translators. I think the same for anyone staying in another country. Translators for maybe a month, but then try to learn the language if you plan to live there.
The apple cake looks a lot like my dad used to make, but he used a lot of sugar, we always had everything sweet and it is very hard for me to give up. I do use less sugar now, and rarely make cakes or sweet pies.
🤞 Fingers crossed for your job wishes.

Thank you :-)

Iris Flavia said...

Oh, that´s a good idea - I´ll warm it up (I still have some and a date, too!). Yes, I hope the project(s) is/are real...

Iris Flavia said...

Oh, Nicole, I´m deeply sorry - it was a mix!!! In a box! All I did was peel and cut the apples add milk, cook and bake....

Iris Flavia said...

Yes, who would ever dare to eat this! Cheers to Henry! (and you)

Iris Flavia said...

What????!!!! I remember 1999. We wanted to extend our visa in Cairns. The lady had some Asian people who spoke near to no English and boy she got so aggressive I got afraid as we were next! She spoke English, no help at all for them!
To me she was supernice, phew.
So that has changed? In your country?! Bummer. Sad.
It was a ready to go-mixture for the cake, no idea how much sugar - it was not too sweet but 6 big apples have enough sweetness! Luckily fK ate mine up, too... And thanks to Amy I´ll warm the rest up next time and maybe add vanilla ice cream. Ups, sorry - how about a meat pie? Do you have Jesters? In that case please a a Popeye on my behalf, it comes with Spinach and Cheese....
Thank you, I so-so-so hope for the mK-job!
