The journal:
It seems I am the first person to clean the shelf above the stove.
Feel free to puke. Yessss...
Cleared out food that was best before... 2019 etc. ***from the green chamber!
Wow.
Felt sad and good at the same time. Made a list to check off whenever we take something so this will hopefully not happen again.
Do you have such a list(s)?
Tuesday: Lazy day. And why not. Laundry. List on what to buy for Thursday when W comes over for home-made onion-cake. And maybe baked apple pie.
Wednesday: Phone: Work agency. The really very nice lady asking me how´s it going and saying on me explaining ESE is still looking for a job for me, "OK, I wait another month and wish you the best!" I´d let her know I have the certificate beforehand. Germany ain´t that bad, eh? I get money.
All groceries done for the big baking day for W. Tools out, too - all by myself, from hiiiiiigh up! By myself - no asking Ingo for help! ... I used a stick. But I got the job done, Grace!
Thursday: Hups! Not 200 ... 600g whipped cream I need! Off to REWE! Bea at the cash-out, knowing I´m not into sweets, "what do you want with so much cream?!" - "Baking for neighbor!" - "Mr. Hein? 😍" ... Bea does not live in our house.
Yes. Braunschweig is a huge city. And a village at the same time, I love this!
Baked Apple- and Onion cake and both went well!
W came with pink Gerbera! And took some apple cake upstairs.
84?! He turns 87 in May! Fit like a sports-shoe (maybe that´s a German saying).
And W brought back my lille Christmas tree, too! He took care of when we were in Madeley/Perth.
LOL, W: "Don´t you have a coffee-machine?" - "We do, in the bathroom - here´s no space." - "????" - He was impressed when I showed.
779 construction sites on German Autobahns - happy Easter-traveling...
Friday: Boy, did I sleep in! Baking, cooking, "entertaining", marched to the city etc etc was maybe a tad too much. Cooking for myself, no worries, but for others... it MUST be good.
Tasted the apple pie - good! Not too sweet, yummy! Froze the rest, 3 portions, had a slice of onion cake, soooo yummy! Confident to bake for fK! Well, maybe next month as in 3 more to eat and 2 frozen.
HAVEN and REXI!!! "Night at the Museum"
Weekend: Saturday: Slept in. Am so darn tired.
Found more potatoes. Ingo must be a real fan.
Sunday: Tired, Slept in. Löwenzahn, Die Maus, Fairy Tale. Got a hair cut. Take that literally. Short! So short! Ingo is a do-er. What has to go has to go.
Henry 🦁 you saw in pic #1.

Love your sketches Iris Happy new week hugs
Dear friend Iris, onion cake sounds good. I absolutely love ❤️ your sketches. Hugs 🫂 🤗 and much love to you.
Thank you, Kathy :-) To a great new week! Hugs
To onion cake, dear friend Linda! To sketching through life - warm hugs (2C here, brr) and much love!
Who got the haircut? You or Ingo? I can't imagine you with short hair.
About that shelf above your stove that you cleaned, was there already food up there still when you first moved in? Because that's how it sounds to me when I read that. And YUK if that is true. Above my stove is a shallow cabinet where I keep spices and dried parsley in a big jar. I plan on making apple pie soon, just need to buy more apples, but I make it with pastry bottom AND pastry top. An "open" pie (no top) would be called a tart here. I have such a mixer too, but almost never use it, I beat things with a wooden spoon like my mum did or with a whisk if I am beating eggs.
I shave Ingo´s hair - he cut mine. What had to go had to go! Things could be worse... but it will take time to get long(er)...
No there is "nothing" above the stove but when you cook dirt snuggles in with bits of hot water-steam and fat, ewww....
To make the dough you needed... I needed that mixer. And my hands... Oh, boy, that was hard work - but worth it! For eggs I just use a Gabel.. fork!
Ridding the clutter! Way to go!
Need to start!
...Iris, enjoy many yummy weeks!
Will try, Tom! To being able to eat!! Often a task here.
I'm terrible at cleaning out food cabinets or the frig. I hate it. I recently did it it my house too. I had one can of something with 2016 on it, but everything else expired was relatively recent so I'm happy. And I used to have a Krups mixer too. It lasted me for a long time. Then I got into baking more the hubby got me a table/stand mixer. :) Still using that. And hand washing dishes is not a bad thing unless you get annoyed with dishes in the sink (that's me). At least there is always a clean glass to use when you hand wash them. Hope you're having a super T day. hugs-Erika (PS- I hope next month there is a job for you too.)
And that apple and onion cake sounds really good too!
I love your drawings, Iris. And the baking sounds delicious.
Sounds like a wonderful week especially entertaining W. I'll have a slice of apple cake, but will skip the onions. They don't like me. I'm sure W appreciated the visit and the cake. Now, I'm missing Prissy. Happy T Day
Hello Iris,
I love all your sketches. I have never tried onion cake? Apple pie and apple cake would be my favorites. The roads and highways here alway seem to be under construction, now they are filling potholes from the past winter. Take care, have a great day!
This sounds like a really terrific week. Baking, time with friends, good calls. I can see why that fridge cabinet was never cleaned Who can reach them?
The German restaurants in our town used to make “Zweibelkuchen” — which I guess was similar to what you made. I always liked it. I should look for a recipe.
Yes, I make lists. They are everywhere, and sometimes I find them after the fact. Oh, well. Onion cake looked good to me, but didn’t sound good. Happy T Day, Iris!
Your cooking looks yummy, especially the onion cake.
You have a Miele? I had a Miele in Italy. I had it for 15 years, then I moved to Holland and had to leave it behind. I bought another one in Holland and that moved with me to the UK as these machines last a life time. When we moved to Spain I bought a new washing machine (a Bosch).
Oh yes, I always make lists. Shopping lists, to-do lists, book lists....
Happy T-Day,
Lisca
Hallo Iris,
Sehr gern gelesen!
I do like your sketches.
Have a good week ... I still find it hard to believe we are in April!!!
All the best Jan
I love your calendar pages. And that onion cake sounds delicious. I used to make lists until one day when I wrote "Make today's list." That's when I stopped making them. I recently went through a big purge and found cans of food with a "Best by 2003" and "Best by 1997"!!!
That Monster drink looks full of energy. It will be great for T this Tuesday, dear Iris.
What a fun post! And you baked! I am so impressed.
That shelf cleanout, yeah, I think we all get a surprise or two when we clean out cabinets and such. Stuff hides, I swear.
Onion cake? That sounds interesting. How nice of you to help W celebrate! 87, wow.
Never had an energy drink.
Our kitchen is a bit higher than standard and yet my back hurts when I do the dishes (we have no dish-washer). Thank you, I really hope for a job at ESE and nowhere else! Hugs
Was both yummy :-)
Thank you, RedPat, oh, was yummy but now I have to delay further baking as I´m really done! Had onion cake 5 times in a row...
Oh. Well as sorry as I am but your Prissy is there as long as thought of.
Onion cake is super-easy and yummy - maybe go for it, Eileen? Haha, yes, maybe pothole-filling here, too! To a great ... Wednesday!
Yes, it was a very good week. Oh, the fridge needs cleaning, too! That what I cleaned was above the stove. Huhhhh....
I use this recipe, from #4 on and use ready-to-go dough :-)
Yes, I fear the list will not be of much use but now you can see what we have... before it was packed to the brim. Oh, the onions get all "sweet", kinda, yummy.
Thank you, yes was very yummy. We even have a Miele Bear! A special edition that came with it. He even went to Perth with us and everybody loved him.
To lists!
Danke, du hast mich zum Lachen gebracht! Hoppala, so wild kams mir gar nicht vor - danke für das Resumé! Und danke für das Erkennen dass mich "alleine" Mut kostet! Ich Arbeite daran... ich muss und will!
Thank you and yes, April already!
Oh! You made me laugh about the list-list, dear host! And wee. I remember when our Grandma´d passed in 2002 we found cherries from 1974... from our tree!!! So sad!
LOL, yes, they hide, there we have it! Oh, W is a very sweet man with the bluest eyes, too. In his breakfast group the women sure are after him (he hates that).
You didn´t miss anything, I just love to try new things.
Are you back home in Germany? That shelf sounds awful, i probably would've sneezed at all the dust.
