Quarante-Sept, Cinquante
We got so much done yesterday, first of all I bought this bonnet.
Nah, not for Niece!
:-)
The title?
We finally went to the bike-workshop to get some pressies.
The woman, in her mid-50's I think (yes, that is important), had an accent, but she spoke a perfect German, never looking for a word.
Ingo told her where the stuff´ll go and she was very interested in Ayers Rock.
Whilst talking she took my note and then murmured quarante-sept, cinquante....
I had to grin and she told us her story.
Which is pretty unbelievable!
She came here 1985, worked, lived a normal life. 2001 she finally applied for German citizenship - and had to answer questions about her parents even!!! If they are married even, hello?!
She said they work sometimes with refugees and she gets mad when they do not want to get our rules. She had to, she did.
We had a real nice chat until other customers dared to enter - it´s a tiny shop, so we said good-bye.
And Ingo stopped and said, oh, what is this?!
She gave it to us with a smile.
So much for pressies, huh :-)
She had to decide on only German or both, French-German.
Nah. you cannot have the Marseillaise AND the German hymn, you gotta make a clear cut!
And she did.
We will come back, the stuff they have is just too cute.
:-) Numbers, logic... language.
Different places in the brain, that´s why she counted in French!
And, why ever, I still understand.
Quatre-vingt dix-neuf. Duuuudes. French count crazy!
Ninety-nine. So easy. Neun und neunzig.
Four-Twenty Ten-Nine. - gave me hell in school!
Or in metro, Paris... never got it!
She decided being German but counting... crazy :-)

You are definitely not going to need those hats in Perth Iris :) I think I'll stick to English with un peu de français thrown in for good measure :)
I need a different hat, though, Grace :-)
And I, too, will stick to English, esp coming to numbers, non?
