T STands For Try Again... And A Spell

Oh, my goodness.
I could not resist to buy these peas as they carry my surname. Yes, I fall for things like that.

Time-warp, 1995: Ingo made baked beans with corned beef, on the ground, and for a first we had minced, dried garlic.
Hmmm. No taste, add more. Hm. Still no taste, add more.

In the night a road train came a tad close, parking to stay for the night, too...

... and we had a crack in the windscreen as a result.

Bingo. Which, btw is how you pronounce Ingo, like Bingo, Dingo, just without the first letter.

Next stop: Ceduna, Windcreen O' Broken must be there in that tiny place for a reason! - fixed it and Ingo was very interested in how it´s done and came very NEAR.

OH MY. Garlic must´ve went out of our bodies and breath like crazy. Minced and dried means: takes a while.

Back to 2020...
Dried chili.

I had to throw my food away. OUCH!!!! It BURNED!!! And I´m not dumb, I´m TOTALLY dumb, I added Harissa, too!

So... try again.

Edible in version #2, but I won´t repeat this.

Did you have food desasters like that, also?

It was so hot I had to laugh in despair!
And I nearly ate half out of... "Gnatz", I think you can translate that to "frustration"?
But I had to give up! Ingo said, "Now stop it!", as tears already showed up.

Art-wise I take a break from my tries and give you, in honour to minced, dried garlic an old one:

Another 60-90-seconds sketch (This is what it´s all about):

Drink?

I got a new cuppa!!! It reminds me of the patterns of Portugal.
I´ve never been there, but I have a magnet on our stove from there, from my Perth-friend Sami and at her place you find loads of Protugese art, too!

To

To tea :-)

And this one special, too!

It says, if cinnamon was to play a role in a fantasy-story, it would be the magician... with the sweet apple it´s the perfect match!

Taking part in Elizabeth and Bleubeard´s "T Stands For Tuesday".

And Henry?
He says...

My old apartment.. I do miss it... NOT ;-) Awful neighbour!
And no more sweet peas... ;-)

I have never seen a "road train"! It must be very scary to drive next to such a thing!
I don't understand at all what kind of food have you been trying to make? What a food sauce is that?
Shall I come at once to cook for you? LOL
The sketch is so beautifully made! But I really won't want such a big belly anymore! You can barely breathe … 😅
I laughed so much here ... Why should (D)Ingo put his own name on the bunch of keys? 😅😅😅
Enjoy your day my dear Colonel Hathi! 🐘
A little big hug for you! xoxo

Valerie, it has never ever been that bad ;-) Happy T-day to you. I´m not even hungry...

____

Ella, 1995 we even overtook road trains. But 1999 they overtook us, THAT was scary indeed.
Thanks to Jamie Oliver - and I mean this in a very positive way - I throw in what I have. This was tortelloni - you know, left overs ;-) - coconut milk and the peas. And... still too hot with just a wee bit of dried chilli.

YES, please come over, but no sweet peas no more, LOL!

As I don´t have kids I have no idea how it must feel.

LOL, that was a pressie from me, the D)Ingo keyring. He´s no narcissist, by no means ;-)
I´ll join the troops now, a little BIG hug to you xoxo

I think it's the first time I heard about Road Train and saw it's picture. Anyhow Congratulations The Sketch was great. Iris You Have a Nice and Safe Day. . . :)

Iris Flavia said...

Manav, thank you. Most road trains transport cattle, though, sheep, or stuff.
The woman was a joy to sketch.
A nice and safe day to you, too! :-)

You are in good company with your cooking disaster. We have all had them at different times!
Probably my worst disaster was using a large tablespoon of cayenne in a pumpkin pie instead of a small teaspoon. It was so inedible even the dog wouldn't eat it! LOL.

Iris Flavia said...

:-) Oh, glad we tend to learn from these dramas, right?
The dog must´ve had a runny nose before even trying.
Glad to know I´m not alone!

I've had a few food disasters. Nice assortment of photos. I love your new mug. Happy T-Day!

I'm sure I've had cooking disasters, but mainly burned food as I go to the computer and leave the pots on the stove, lol.
I'm not a fan of spicy food although Jose is, so he knows not to use too much when he cooks, so he just adds his spicy sauce to his food later.
The sketch is beautiful once again :)

That was a good story about the dried garlic. And oh sugar snap peas. Yum. I haven't had any in ages. Now I need to get some. And thanks for the Australia story. I am enjoying from the couch travel just now. So many plans and Corinna blew them all away. How is the apple tea? Is it sweet? Hope you have a super T day Iris. Hugs-Erika

Good morning, yes we call culinary disasters from time to time. I do love those sweet peas, especially the ones that you eat the pod too.
I love your cup-very pretty Happy T wishes Kathy

T for Tuesday .... my of my I have wanted to go to Australia for years but still haven't made it ... I love your teacup and that Sweet Apple Tea sounds delicious ... enjoyed your post

Meggymay said...

Yes we all have a cooking story we want to forget, mine involves chilli and the heat it caused by leaving in the seeds. We had a laugh and a jug of iced water close to hand that evening.
I enjoyed reading your post this afternoon.
The road train I'd never seen before, they must be good drivers to control a load of that length.
Happy T day wishes.
Yvonne xx

I like that cup :)

Iris Flavia said...

Tom, yes, awful! In the middle of nowhere, too!!
More than once. This is even "nothing. I had to honk to the guy in front to get going!!

____

Anne, yes, I love that mug, was good tea after the desaster ;-)

____

Sami, other way round here, spicy for me only. For days, hence! But good idea to add spices later.

____

Erika, yes, Corinna makes us stop all plans!
The tea was not too sweet, yummy, but I could taste no cinammon. Maybe due to the meal before, LOL, Happy T-day and hugs from here!

____

Kathy, I hope your sweet peas get better treated than mine! ;-)
A happy T-day to you!

____

Linda, go!!! I suggest the Western coast of Australia, beautiful! Or the Outback, the stars... awww...

____

Yvonne, yes, chilli. LOL.
And the road trains, yes Awesome things and also female drivers. I would not really dare...
A happy T-day to you xx

Jeanie said...

We all have food disasters but yours is a pretty good one! I never heard the term road trains for this -- how awful it damaged your windscreen. And yes, garlic can really sneak up on you!

Linda Kunsman said...

Everyone must have at least one story of a cooking disaster- and I have several myself:):) Love sugar snap peas- I eat them right out ogf the package. Couldn't deal with the sauce and heat!
Beautiful new mug you have- the blue also reminds me of Morocco - not that I've ever been there in person- only from watching on TV. Happy T day!

gigi-hawaii said...

What you said about the side effects of eating garlic and chili made me laugh. Woo Hoo.

Iris Flavia said...

Jeanie, you don´t have Road Trains in America or just not the term?
Garlic, huuhhh, no more!

____

Linda, we ate the peas from the field when I was you. Putch, that "hurt" to write ;-)

____

gigi, I hope this time I have learned!

Nice new mug. One time when my daughter was little we attempted to make a cake. It didn'that come out right so we just ate it with a spoon, at least it tasted good.:) As I type, the sun just came out after raining most of the day. :)
Enjoy the day, Iris!

Iris Flavia said...

The taste is what counts, Bill, mine was for the bin this time, ...
Oh, you had rain again, send some over, we need some. A nice evening to you!

Those sugar peas look good. It's been forever since I had any of those, and I do like them. Those "road trains" are limited to 2 trailers here. Not nearly as long and impressive as the 3+ trailer length.

That mug is pretty :) and apple tea sounds sweet. I love the cinnamon saying.

Happy T Tuesday!

Great photos, cooking and art today! I'm always in awe of the road trains and their drivers, how they manage to travel such distances on those roads is amazing! The melon made me smile and this type (Piel de Sapo melon) happens to be my favourite - yum 😉. Happy T Day! Take care! Hugs, Jo x

Any and everything I cook is a disaster, BUT I never use anything hot anymore. I used to eat hot, hot, hot. No longer. Tastes and my tummy changed. Enjoyed your journey, though.

Loved the tea and the beautiful new mug. It's truly lovely, looks a lot like the many tiles Sami shared with us when she was in Portugal. Thanks for sharing your story of the sugar snap peas, the nice art drawing, the road train (I've never seen one like that before), and your tea and new mug with us for T this Tuesday, dear Iris.

Kate Yetter said...

Sweet peas sound delicious but I haven't had any in a while. And yes, I have made some food disasters as well. I guess that is how we learn. But it still drives me made to have to throw it away and waste all those ingredients.
That apple and cinnamon combination sounds delightful in a tea. I like that combo as a dessert as well. And your new mug is such a beautiful shade of blue!
Happy Tea Day,
Kate

Eileen Bergen said...

I've had far worse cooking disasters than that, Iris. Once I was making borscht in an old fashioned pressure cooker and the pressure blew. We had to repaint the ceiling. You should have seen ME!

Happy T-Day! Eileen xx

Iris Flavia said...

Divers and Sundry no more sweet peas for me ;-)
Yes, those raod trains are something.
The mug is less impresseive, happy T-day :-)

____

Jo, there are docus on the road train travels, I love them!
Hugs and a happy T-day!

____

Elizabeth, I thank you for hosting, you kinda encourage me, too, to cook and resume to art!
The road trains sure are a bummer, most are with cattle and sheep - at least back then!

____

Kate I laughed crying throwing it away.
The tea was much, much better, LOL A happy T-day to you!

____

Eileen, how can it get worse????
Oh, OK, THAT way.
Sorry, you made me laugh! Ingo claims he´d made borscht once too. Not such an impression, I can´t remember it!
LOL, my belly hurts from laughing, thank you for sharing xx

We've all had our cooking disasters. Through the years I've learnt some tricks to cope with too much salt or burnt but there is nothing you can do about 'too hot'unfortunately.
(Btw I love hot spicy!)
I too had never heard of a road train. I must say, that is a beast. Would not like to meet that one.
Oh what a lovely mug. I love the colour and also the pattern.
I had just written a long comment and because my internet is very slow, it timed out and I lost it all! Had to type another comment. (So this is comment number two)
Happy T-Day,
Hugs,
Lisca
PS Thank you for offering to send me a nice card. I will email my address.

Iris I have to say that dish you were cooking looks really really good! If I see that I'll get my cup of rice and have that for lunch or dinner or both! It looks tasty and creamy! I love dried peppers and spicy dishes so much but yes, there are limits to my liking like when I went to Thailand, the lady asked it I want the hotdog placed some hot sauce? And I was like, Yes please. Then I was chatting with my sister when the lady handed it to me. I took a bite and Iris, I kept myself from yelling, really, I was crying, on the streets of Bangkok. I looked at what that 'hot sauce' was, then I only saw it was a jar of blendered chili peppers. Yup fresh and pureed chili peppers. I wasn't able to finish the hotdog and I brought it back to the hotel and washed it on the sink (I had to finish it or my ancestors will haunt me for wasted food HAHA) So yah, that was my pepper story! But yours look super good!

I would love a cup of that apple tea too thank you so much :)

Happy Wednesday dear Iris! Work was heavy for me this evening so I got so late in posting and visiting you all :) I thought of visiting your last because your posts always gave me laughs and makes me happy in lasting impressions! Just like how you bought that peas because it has your name on it HAHAHA Love it!!!

Iris Flavia said...

Lisca, I love hot, too, but that was outch-burning hot ;-)
1995 we overtook Road Trains, 1999 they overtook us. You get used to it...
Oh, I´m sorry about that time out! My Brother once commented. In English, that is really something for him and then... gone.
He called me, in German, and complained. And he never tried again, LOL
Checking my e-mail an reckon I´ll go to the city then, happy belated T-day and hugs from here!

____

Stevenson!!! LOL
A teacher of mine went to Sri Lanka and didn´t know what "hot" means. She was crying, too.
Glad I was only crying in my kitchen!
You washed it, LOL, at least you didn´t waste it or got haunted, you have me laughing here!!

Nice you went with your Sister, too! I still remember fondly the holiday I spent at my Brother´s space when he studied and was on holiday. As kids that would never happened but as adults we became friends and had a great time in Cologne together He even offered me his bed :-)

Send me your address and tea is on the way - if that´s allowed. No tea to Asutralia, for example.

Thank you, it still is a weird thought for me that people think I´m funny!
But I´m happy to have made you laugh, dear friend! To a happy Thursday :-)

Stevenson said...

Oh that is super nice of you Iris! I would love to send you my address if you will also send yours because I do have some tea here as well that I would love for you to try :) And yes, I did receive tea from a friend from Peru and another from Japan so I guess it is allowed here :)

Love your story with your brother! I am sure he feels blessed and lucky when you guys got older in having a sister like you. My sister is actually my cousin and since I only have brother siblings, we grew together so she really is literally my sister plus we are also friends because we are classmates since kinder until high school so we are like twins in the family haha.

Iris Flavia said...

Cute story about your "Sister", Stevenson!
Let´s exchange adresses via e-mail, OK, mine is on the way :-)

I love your new blue cup. I too have food disasters, usually because I put something on the stove and come back to the computer while the stove heats up, then I smell burning and have to throw it all away :(
