confused by the signals and stopped, thinking he had finished the race.

Spanish runner, Ivan Fernandez, was right behind him and, realizing
what was happening in front of him, began shouting for the Kenyan to
keep running.
Motai did not know Spanish and did not understand.
Fernandez pushed Mutai to victory.
One
reporter asked Evan, "Why did you do this?" Evan replied, "My dream is
that one day we can have the kind of community life that pushes

why did you let the Kenyan win?" the reporter insisted. Evan replied,
"I didn't let him win, he would win. It was his race."
The reporter insisted and asked again: "But you could have won!"
Evan
looked at him and replied, "But what is the merit of my victory? What
is the honor of this medal? What will my mother think?"

What values do we teach our children and to what extent do they inspire others to earn them?
Most of us take advantage of people's weaknesses rather than helping to strengthen them."

I loved the story about the race-I agree-what honor is it to take advantage of the real winner-sometimes these athletes get disoriented during a long race like that.

Love the story about the runners, Iris. It is nice to hear something positive with all the terrible things happening in the world. Many world leaders would have tripped the runner to get past him.

What a beautiful story about the two runners. He is right, it wouldn't have been a real win if he had pushed to first position.
Btw, the Spanish don't speak English, I have learnt to my detriment. So I had to learn Spanish.
Lovely blossom and daffodils. I long for daffodils, but they haven't got them here. Perhaps I should buy bulbs and grow them myself. (I'm going to Holland in June, I'll buy some at the airport.)
I love your funnies, especially the Apple one. (I'm an Apple person, but I wouldn't fight over it)

Hi Iris, great post today but I think it should read "Some people take advantage of other people's weekenesses" If my experiences as a school teacher are anything to go on it must develop with age or maybe things have changed radically as everyone I worked with and the children too were always ready to help others and encourage each other to be the best they could be. You made me smile today. I love the story about the runners. It does give us some hope. (There are a lot of Spanish peple who don't speak English).
Those seagulls are a real nuisance. I think they are rather beautiful but they can be very annoying when you are trying to eat even an ice-cream. They will swoop in and steal anything!

I smiled all through your post, Iris. It must have been hard to leave Australia and come back to reality! The story about Kenyan runner Abel Mutai and Spanish runner Ivan Fernandez was inspiring. Fernandez showed his integrity, a quality which seems to be sadly lacking these days. I loved your watercolor of the seagull. They are raucous scamps. Have a good week!
