With this thefty face (from Ingo´s swimming trunks) I join Nicole´s FFO.
Pic taken on Great-Granpa (Lenovo-laptop) in our Cabin in Madeley/Perth.
For Annie´s Smiles I want to share this:
"Kenyan
runner Abel Mutai was a few meters from the finish line, but got
confused by the signals and stopped, thinking he had finished the race.
The
Spanish runner, Ivan Fernandez, was right behind him and, realizing
what was happening in front of him, began shouting for the Kenyan to
keep running.
Motai did not know Spanish and did not understand.
Fernandez pushed Mutai to victory.
One
reporter asked Evan, "Why did you do this?" Evan replied, "My dream is
that one day we can have the kind of community life that pushes
ourselves and others to win as well."
"But
why did you let the Kenyan win?" the reporter insisted. Evan replied,
"I didn't let him win, he would win. It was his race."
The reporter insisted and asked again: "But you could have won!"
Evan
looked at him and replied, "But what is the merit of my victory? What
is the honor of this medal? What will my mother think?"
Values are passed on from generation to generation.
What values do we teach our children and to what extent do they inspire others to earn them?
Most of us take advantage of people's weaknesses rather than helping to strengthen them."
Hope this made you smile, too, and gives hope that not everybody is selfish.
I wonder if the two became friends?
Crazy, though, the Spanish runner didn´t speak English...
Friends, btw!
Mailman Ingo brought it to me from dear Kathy!
Such a nice surprise - I woke up from my jetlag-tiredness instantly! 🥰
When we finally arrived in Braunschweig late last Friday night from Airport Frankfurt it was so cold we could see our breath!
Also when Tuesday early morning I went to the doc: 3C / 37F.
Wednesday on the way to the doc in the city it was much warmer and I found these:
To Spring!
Some funnies to slowly start into the weekend?
To a great weekend, everyone.

Hello Iris, can't sleep so am up reading blogs-smiles.
I loved the story about the race-I agree-what honor is it to take advantage of the real winner-sometimes these athletes get disoriented during a long race like that.
Glad you liked my spring card I made around a dozen of them and they are all different except for the sewing and the charm
happy friday and weekend hugs
Kathy, sorry you can´t sleep, I hate when this happens!
Yes, the honor the Spanish runner got anyways!
The butterfly-charm is so cute and promising! Last year I saw but one! To happy days, hugs to you all, lake included!
Great story about the runners. It ses Spring flowers are popping up :) Love the funnies.
Yes, people should be like that!
Yes, but trees are still naked. The first funny still makes me laugh, I can so imagine this!
...sportsmanship isn't common these, it's nice to be reminded that it still excesses. Iris, enjoy your spring flowers!
That´s why I wanted to share, Tom! :-)
Cold day again today, but it will get better.
I love the runner story. Yes, he could have stolen the victory be he knew that would not be a real win. Let us all be that kind of person.
Neat image of the bird that is a thief! Gulls will grab what they want.
I hope you are adjusting to life back home.
best, mae at maefood.blogspot.com
Oh Iris, this is the best story and it's true. That makes it all the better. I with people could really take a lesson from it. That is so nice of Kathy to send you such a nice gift. Thankyou for sharing with FFO and have a very nice weekend.
Love your bird thief and an inspiring story! -Christine cmlk79.blogspot.com
Love the story about the runners, Iris. It is nice to hear something positive with all the terrible things happening in the world. Many world leaders would have tripped the runner to get past him.
Glad spring has sprung for you.
I loved the story about the runners...there should be more like him....it really made me smile. I love seeing all the signs of Spring.
Hugs,
Annie x
Gene, yes, I wish this also!

RedPat, so true, and not only politician.
Yes to Spring, now we only need warmer weather :-)
____
Annie, glad I made you smile!
Hugs x
What a beautiful story about the two runners. He is right, it wouldn't have been a real win if he had pushed to first position.
Btw, the Spanish don't speak English, I have learnt to my detriment. So I had to learn Spanish.
Lovely blossom and daffodils. I long for daffodils, but they haven't got them here. Perhaps I should buy bulbs and grow them myself. (I'm going to Holland in June, I'll buy some at the airport.)
I love your funnies, especially the Apple one. (I'm an Apple person, but I wouldn't fight over it)
Have a great weekend,
Lisca
Hi Iris, great post today but I think it should read "Some people take advantage of other people's weekenesses" If my experiences as a school teacher are anything to go on it must develop with age or maybe things have changed radically as everyone I worked with and the children too were always ready to help others and encourage each other to be the best they could be. I must remember to take cake with me when driving in the winter too Lol! Take care and have a great weekend. Hugs Angela xXx
I've seen the story of the runners before. It's still a beautiful and uplifting story no matter how many times it's read.
Lisca, what? How come Spanish people don´t speak English??? What second language do they learn then?
Good idea to pick up bulbs at the airport! To a great weekend!
____
Angela, I remember it different from school. But at work we really all help each other :-)
To cake on the snow on a great weekend hugs xXx

CJ, I so agree!
I like it when people help each other out and not only think of themselves. If you fb me your address I can send you something from NZ.
I like it, too! In our company we live it! :-)
What do you mean by "fb", you know my FB-account - do you mean e-mail? That would be flaviakaiser @ gmx.de - I´d love to learn from NZ on this!
You made me smile today. I love the story about the runners. It does give us some hope. (There are a lot of Spanish peple who don't speak English).
Those seagulls are a real nuisance. I think they are rather beautiful but they can be very annoying when you are trying to eat even an ice-cream. They will swoop in and steal anything!
Aren't the daffodils beautiful. They make me so happy as a sign that spring is almost here. Kate x
Kate, I hope, too, more people help - in our company we do!!!
(the last one was fighting and hiding)
Seagulls to me - as annoying as the can be - are a symbol of holiday!x
I smiled all through your post, Iris. It must have been hard to leave Australia and come back to reality! The story about Kenyan runner Abel Mutai and Spanish runner Ivan Fernandez was inspiring. Fernandez showed his integrity, a quality which seems to be sadly lacking these days. I loved your watercolor of the seagull. They are raucous scamps. Have a good week!
