Kinda a mural, too? This was 1999. I drove Ingo nuts. I WANTED!!!! EVERY!!! James Blish book on Star Trek original series - so we went to EVERY second hand book shop throughout Australia.
I have them all.
You know... sitting in the Outback after a long drive, reading one of his books was like watching the series!

That black swan mural looks beautiful, plus your story about teaching the volunteers a thing or two made me laugh. It is so fun looking back at these memories from the nineties.

Oh, now I understand why there are two black swans in the mural! I didn't know you are/were a Star Trek fan! I went through a Trekkie phase too in the 1980s, but only for the original series on TV that I watched as a kid in the 1960s when it first came on. I liked the movies well enough too, that were done later with the original cast. KHAAAAAAAAN!
So sad that the mural is gone! I hope the new one is as nice.

How many James Blish Star Trek books are in the series? I remember when "our" Myer centre had the train up the top and other things too, but we never went up there even once, hubby wouldn't go any time we were in town and we lived a long way out from the city so couldn't go by ourselves and I was working by then anyway so couldn't take the kids on the bus.It closed fairly soon after opening because someone jumped off the railing (suicide) and landed on the below ground floor. It has been closed off ever since, even the shops one floor down from the top are now closed too.
P.S. I LOVE the information centre, so much prettier than ours.
Iris; where the shelf bends under the wieght of books put a taller book under on the lower shelf to support the shelf and lift it straight. That's what I always did.

To love, huh! Be it swans or Trek! Oh. It was first aired in Germany the year I was born so I grew with a re-run! But I have them all on DVD to watch in the original (here they are translated to German).

12 books - the last one was finished by his wife as he was very sick and passed. When you find one - grab it, it´s really like watching!
So... this is not YOUR Myer?! No ten horses´d gotten me into that train! Now, learning this (suicide) I´m really glad I skipped that. Clumsy me would´ve fallen out by accident!

yes it is/was our Adelaide Myer but we just didn't shop there, it was too expensive for most things, we went to a department store called John Martin's instead, cheaper but still good quality things, but they closed near the end of last century.
