It´s the "Day of Railway" next Saturday and sure as hell I will join!
Cause...
I learned rail is not comphy in America - please, give me your thoughts on railway, wherever you are!
ESE is about to start a project in North America (I spent days translating some CVs for that).
I love the engineering part of railway, not so much really riding it.
But for Ingo´s sake I agreed on a more than expensive ride from Adelaide to Perth next year.
For which we have to fly (at least with beloved QANTAS, that does not fly Germany anymore) from Perth to Adelaide and then back via the Indian Pacific.
Yes, you read that correct. I am not on drugs or drunk or such.
We will ride the tram to the main train station Braunschweig, then with DB to Frankfurt, hopefully have a hotel (still difficulties on that side), next day somehow to the airport, then to Singapore, on to Perth, via Transperth (still an open point, too as - do not laugh!!! - I cannot reach Transperth from Germany!!! No matter which tool/browser, but Sami gave me the E-Mail-address)... then to Madeley to our cabin. #76, if you want to pop in.
Can you reach Transperth??? Some of you checked and confirmed you can reach Grill´d, which we can not.
We are blocked!!! Blocked!
Later then back via Transperth to the this time national airport (have never been there before) and via QANTAS off to Adelaide, where we´ll meet fellow blogger River (there is a connection to... Sami (whom else?) and via TRAIN (!!!) - aka Indian Pacific - back to Perth.
I do train/railway all day long and what do I do for Ingo on my holiday?
Train.
Now if this isn´t love, tell me.
We´ll see the Outback. That´s a huge plus.
And maaaaaaybe I am allowed to see some technical details.
Maybe if I refer to ALSTOM or Siemens mobility they have a heart.
Wish me luck!
This is for Tom´s Signs2, certainly!

I don't travel on our trains very much but they seem comfy enough. "comfy" is short for "comfortable" so is spelled with an 'f' not a 'ph'.
I have never travelled the Indian-Pacific to the west, but I did many years ago travel from Melbourne to Adelaide to bring my firstborn to meet her grandmothers. And then back again of course, with a change of train to get back to Sydney, then another train to get to Brisbane where we were living at the time. A very long trip both ways with a baby fifteen months old but she loved it all and was very well behaved.
An "f" it is from now on :-)
Yes, Transperth (all I know so far in Australia) is very comfy, too! Much better than our trains, more modern.
Respect to travel with a 15-month-old!
I once was with my Niece when she was 2 and a bit.
There were no trolleys for kids. There were none, they did not have that.
She threw herself on the floor and yelled "Alter, Alter, Alter", which means... well, a polite form of "fu#k".
Did I feel helpless! Took care she does not hurt herself, stood against the nasty looks and waited for Bro...
On a train with such a kid, forget about that, LOL!
We don't have a lot of rail around where I live. There are a few pleasure short rail trips you can take for the scenery. And there is one train that runs from Maine into Boston, but I haven't ever taken it. I have taken a few train trips but they were a long time ago. But my cousin is an engineer who runs a freight train. It is his dream job. hugs-Erika
Oh, yes, in the Harz Mountains you can "pleasure trips", too. Not my thing ;-)
Freight trains sounds interesting, too. Here we have to "fight" when crossing countries with trains as different countries have different sizes.
...trains here are primarily for moving freight, in populated corridors passenger rail service exists.
Crazy. Here loads of people travel by train.
I haven't been on a train here for a few years but we have a lot of commuter trains that cross our part of the country. Of course there are subway trains and street cars too.
What a trip you have planned. I am so excited for you, and can't wait to see photos. I have a cousin in Australia, but in Sydney.
RedPat, are they comfy?

Sue, yes. I fear tons of pics will be taken!
There are only a few train stations here but I've never been on them. Transperth, have not problem accessing it. It's website has lots of info on it, it's like one stop travelling. :)
Bill, this is crazy!!! Why the heck is Germany blocked???
I don´t "get" it.
I've never been on a train. With the rails deteriorating across our country, I'm not sure I would want to take a train trip. Sounds like an adventure for you, dear.
You´ve never been on a train?! Wow.
It´s about time ESE conquers America! ;-)
Those statues are fun. Too bad there aren't any more for you to share. And I love that glass case. I haven't seen one other than plain brown or black or blue. (Not that I've been out looking-smile.) And I don't want to think about boots at all yet. :) Hugs-Erika
