The Other Condiment

Ingo´s had it.
He needed a pie.
And found a recipe from a German girl.
She´d been in Australia and when being home she soooo missed meat pies!
And found no proper recipe, so next time being there she asked a housewife how she makes a pie.

I think it is a wee bit a Ned Kelly from Jester´s?

Now, I´m no Jamie Oliver, so these four condiments to the left took me one hour!!!

Which is my own fault.
The housewife suggested 0,5cm nuggets, but.... naaaah!
I had to have it much, much finer!

We got a new pan, too, just for the occasion, have a look how yummy it all looks - and wee, sad you cannot smell it!

Spot the skylines of Perth to the upper left?
And yes. That is Vegemite in the red/yellow glass.

According to the recipe we used Australian wine, but.
No.
We did not put Vegemite in it. We used love as condiment instead - Ingo always has the best ideas :-)

That glass was best before 2016 and it´s still around cause it always reminds me of the Vegemite incident on Christmas evening 2006 when I asked at Maccas for a small portion for my colleague.
This is given in morning dishes, I had to explain my wish three times - the first girl agreed and brought me one, her colleague saw this (I explained again) and said, "one?!!". He went and brought me 25, which the boss saw, I explained again and got all proud smiles.
Behind me was a long line already, also with visitors from England and my.... a hot discussion Vegemite vs Marmite was on!
Ingo was about to come looking for me as it all took so long, too!

And yes, Maccas for Christmas.
That cabin had no aircon and we hardly could make ourselves eat anything at all!

Ingo later made a mobile from 24 of the packets (which didn´t survive 3 moves) and I still have... just have a look:

Well, here goes:

The instruction says you heat the pie maker first, but how are you supposed to make it properly then.
We did it when still cold and here:

Yum! (Minus the fat bacon blocks, they make me gag and I have to pick them out of the mass...).
No Lion of the day as this is Aussie content (speaking of which, I´ll be back to that later!)

Aussie meat pies and vegemite - what a tease today Iris as I write this from Bangkok! Mind you in the argument about which is better I go back to my British roots and say Marmite!
Have a great day.
Wren x

Wren, I never had Marmite, only Vegemite... and... if you didn´t grow up with it (I didn´t) you don´t like it - I´ve tried, LOL...
Wishing you a great day in Bangkok as well! x

Meat pies are definitely a Brit thing.

In Canada we have a dish called tourtiere.

Not a fan of vegemite or marmite either, I think they taste just awful!
Love pies, specially the Jester's ones.
Yours look good :)

Yes, I was about trying Vegemite again, but Ingo said it´s a waste of money, I won´t like it anyways, brrrr, agreed, just awful! ;-)
The pie-maker is really good and since it starts working also cold even I could work it!
