All The Big Ladies

This is one of the zoo-carers in Hanover. He gave soooo much  interesting info and in such a cheery, funny way, too - I sadly forgot his name due to that!!!
Reckon it was his way to beat the cold. It really was so cold. What a dumb idea I had!
Luckily with K it was still fun!

K asked if I had gone by myself, too - yes, but so glad she was there - not only for company, she knows the rules as she visits often with her partner and kids 😘
Also these pics are from her company phone! I insisted my digi-cam is better, it´s not. Now what to do with Perth????
Reckon I´ll buy a new cam there as I won´t take my company phone. Anyhows, back to the big ladies, shall we?

I was astonished they seemed to not mind the strong cold at all!
These are all females, the carer pointed out by name who was who and really, the boss was the boss!
And yes, there were teenies, too, checking out how far they can go with the boss... not very much, the "old lady" showed them where to stop!

(This was taken with my cam, gah).
There are no males (apart from the "kids") cause this zoo, as big as it is, has no space for keeping a male group properly too.
See, this is what I like about Zoo Hanover - they really know and care.
And work together with other zoos, so, for the visitor´s sake the ladies soon move to another zoo, a smaller group of males will move in whilst they make room to get the ladies back.

They only take in a small group of males, hence.
The carer told  us so much more in his humorous way, it was great.

I sadly cannot speak for other carers as due to the cold most animals got fed inside and hence...  If I pick a date.... right now it´s some "warm" 7C / 44F.

With this I certanly again join Eileen´s Saturday Critters, more  to come!

Henry 🦁

Tomorrow we  go to the Christmas Market? Let´s see (you there), Henry!

My recent zoo visit to the National Zoo in Washington DC featured elephants also, and last year we walked very far to see the elephants at the animal park in San Diego -- so I enjoyed seeing your elephants too. Some people don't think they are well-off in captivity but I think they can be properly cared for.

I love the idea of seeing the animals in winter. I'm sure many of them stayed snuggled in their enclosures. And phones do take such good photos. I think better than my DSL camera sometimes too. But at least with my camera I can do close ups and other things my phone doesn't do so well. That's a tough decision about what to bring to Perth with you. Hope you come across and answer soon. hugs-Erika

Erika, yes to all that!!!! Ingo got me a tablet. Can take pics, but no zoom. My cam has not only digital, but real zoom and yet...
To an answer! hugs!

You took some really good photos. It's really hard to imagine how big animals like this are until you get close! Thanks for sharing!

The elephants make humans seem like little toys when standing close. :)

It's good that zoos are focusing on animal conservation and not making the poor animals do silly tricks.

I love elephants, they are so gentle. It's funny how they have their hierachy sorted.

Ooooh, cold for that kind of outing, but it sounds like you had a great time. I do love elephants. Once I got a bucketbof elephant manure when the circus was in town, to use as a deer deterrent in my garden. It worked for a while, and I had some big plants too!

I think you can zoom with a tablet, same as you can with a phone. Expand the image with your fingers, to get the closeness you want, then take the photo. It should work, I do it with my phone when I can't get close enough to something.
I love elephants and was happy to see the lions all snuggled up to keep warm too.
