Didn´t you love this at school, also...
Heeeeelp!!!!
20+ years on and I STILL have no idea what to use it for .. and nearly fell asleep, watching this video (I didn´t make it to the end, but give it a go).
Are you into Infinitesimalrechnung and if so, please tell me HOW! WHY? X2?
Asked my math-teacher what I need this for.
"So you can study".
What a dumbhead. Statics? What for? Torture pupils???
You call this different, calculus, but I think for once our name nails it.... you can "calculate" into infinity.
I hence like to join The language theme again...
To give you a laugh.
He also was our swim-teacher. His bathing "suit" (Speedos, of course) had a square / quadratic-pattern.
You know what happens to plain squares when you wear them on certain body parts?
He sure looked very manly. 🤣
We were like 16-17 -year olds.
Henry 🦁
... Kalle with the math-thingy - he would maybe know but sadly is long gone....
Are you with me or did you enjoy this?
I but barely managed.
But I did!
P.S. "Gymnasium" in German is not a gym but "a type of school with a strong emphasis on academic learning". (wiki) - it´s a school. Pffftbft!
And in the "aftermath" I learned nothing useful!

I remember my dad speaking of the Gymnasium and didn't realise it was a school until mum told me later. I thought he was learning gymnastics.
I didn't stay in school long enough to do Calculus and I'm glad. I'm not smart enough to be working out any of that.
River, LOL!!!! A yoga-Dad maybe? 🤣
Glad I explained for others then!
Oh, you missed not a thing, in my eyes - I never needed this. Ever. Waste of time for me. (I still laugh imagining your Dad doing gymnastics! Cute!)
Mathematics is abacadabra to me. I never understood any of it, and I wasn't interested. I don't know how I got through those four years of maths.
Bertiebo, I´m with you.
"Abacadabra" 🤣 Well said.
We were required to take math through grade ten. Algebra and calculus were introduced at that time. They are the reason I stopped taking math.
...school was always a struggle for me, I've learn more since those days. Some lessons were easy and some were hard.
William, sorry, you made me laugh. 13 stupid years over here...
____
Tom, yes, we learned more after "school".
This is when math starting losing me. Gives me the chills. Smile. Hope its the good day!
Erika 🤣
So I am not alone! It´s a cold, windy, but good day, despite this!
Oh I did laugh Iris, especially at the thought of those Speedos 😀 They really are the worst. My brother in law used to wear them when they came swimming here, Aimee bought him a pair of long bathers for a Christmas present, he got the message 😉 I think I've forgotten most of what I learnt at school, now I learn from life, every day 💙
Grace, LOL!!!! Aimee is so cool 🤣🤣
Yes, I so agree, we learn from life, school was a waste of time after we learned the basics.
Could never get along with dreaded mathematics.
Seems you´re all with me!
I majored in English Language and Literature in uni. There was a good reason for that 😺 When I need Math, I ask Himself. As a chemist and Professor of Chemistry (he also taught high school math), he speaks math fluently.
Hubby, too, speaks math fluently - aren´t we lucky gals 😉
As in "for in case"! Hope that never comes up!

Enjoy Your Weekend,
Cheers
All the things they taught us I barely use and all the things they should have taught (and were useful) they never did.
I agree to "The Padre": If you speak math, you can talk in any language ;-) To learn English was my horror! ( Up to the date I talked with a native speaker)
I never took calculus, but actually enjoyed the math I took in high school. I didn't continue it, though. It should count towards the foreign language requirement ;)
Padre, LOL. Another Speedo-guy! Cheers on that! Have two Uncles who wew ship-engineers, one even went over Bermuda-Triangle with a self-bought boat with wife and baby-daughter - trust in his own work!

Jeanie, I´m SO with you!!!!
____
Ingo, you two are so far the only ones here ;-)
____
Divers and Sundry, I had to - there was no option to somehow avoid this.
"Pain...".
I loved geometry, but not maths. I am definitely a humanities/social science kind of gal! Words, not numbers are my thing! 😃
I´m with you! 😀
I liked algebra but didn't understand geometry. I can add and substract and that seems to work for me these days so I'm happy with that. :) 14C with some rain.
Yupp, I agree, that´s enough,add and substract :-)
And calculate how much to tip... Need Ingo for that.
Math is not my favorite.
I was a science major, so geometry, Algebra 1 and 2, trig, and then calculus were all required. I can honestly say I have used almost none of it, and have forgotten almost all I learned. I often wonder why schools require subjects that will likely never be used in the real world.
It will rarely be used except by some specialist. Crazy!
I remember loving maths and especially geometry, but never algebra, that was the confusing part for me.
If you did calculus you did a higher math them me.
Coffee is on and stay safe
R's Rue, I wasn´t a fan, either.
____
Spare Parts and Pics, it´s to torture, I´m pretty sure. So much nonesense, not much useful stuff.
____
RePat, and I wonder what even they do with it - play?
____
River, I think most was a waste of time...
____
Dora, it was a waste...
Yes, I learned calculus in high school, but I had trouble following what the guy was saying since it was in German only. I used calculus to study the area under the curve when COVID-19 first came on the scene. I was trying to predict the amount of surge we would see. However, I soon realized that the pandemic was reaching a rate of exponential proportion. And I did it through calculus, but I could have just watched the news to see how everything was exploding back then.
WHAT?! Why in German only?!
At least you found an idea what to do with it.
A math teacher teaching in German? Crazy.
Math was never my subject but my other half explained to me what this was all about. I appreciated it from an artistic point of view - ie it looks good, does that sound bad?
Hugs, Neet xx
Ugh not my favourite subject but then the teachers were not very pleasant either so that has a lot to do with it lol. Elle xx
I really did used to irritate my maths teacher - never could see the point of learning some things! I eventually gave up on it! Hugs, Chrisx
