Candy-Time!

Ingo bought Halloween-candy for his colleagues.
It was a fail. Un-yummy.

Mine... hmmmm...
The thought of putting a real herring in my mouth is spookiest, though, but then I´m not a seagull. These are super-yummy (and long gone).

The closest we came to Halloween when I was a kindy-kid was St. Martin´s Day.
Also as I leaned now, called "Old Hallowmas Eve"!

A couple of years ago Ingo and I went.
In front of the church nearby there really was... people selling (!!! - isn´t it about sharing?) waffles and then St. Martin showed up - on a pony!
So cute!

The kids were thrilled!
And followed with their laterns as he made his way - red coat included - into town.

Me. 4 years old. We had no LED-lights in the laterns (nor a St Martin or a pony!) - we had real candles.
I was frightened to the brim and YES.
Some dumbheads managed to set the laterns on fire!!!
My Mum also guessed this will happen, was with me and took me home before I could again scream my head off.

No candies!
Not really a tale, but true.

I get no candy no more.

My BIL´s name is Martin and he saved Ingo´s life in 2008.

Yes, you would love my sort:

I got the last one. Think about that.

I bet those pelicans love licorice herrings also. I love your drawing today. Anything to do with ocean catches my eye right away. And once when we visited North Carolina we were eating lunch outside and this pelican flew by and sat watching us for scraps. Reminded me of the dogs-smile. I hope you're having a great weekend. And thanks for joining us at AJJ again. Hugs-Erika

Erika, those birds are... fun? I think these are seagulls (in Germany we have no pelicans, as far as I know) - a pelican once went after me (in Australia) and BOY was he huge!!!
I ran off! Haha, "chicken"-me - hugs!

I hope this is just herring shaped licorice and not anything with actual herrings in it haha. Love the drawing though, very eye-catching, I would definitely be taking a closer look if I saw them in a shop. Mostly people think Halloween is an American invention but it was actually a Scottish tradition way before that. It is the evening before the Western Christian feast of All Hallows' Day or All Saints' Day 1st November. Thanks for joining me this month with all your cool drawings Iris, it's been a lot of fun. Just one day left... Thanks for joining me for the October theme at Art Journal Journey this month Elle/Empire of the Cat xx

I love licorice. I'd be fighting the seagulls off for the licorice herring. Too bad Ingo's nice gesture of candy for his colleagues was a fail. Enjoy your day!

Iris
Have you seen Christines blog and her post about 'Baked (actually microwaved) Apples 2022'?
They do look delicious, and you were recently asking about microwaving apples

All the best Jan

I think I would pass on those treats too.

Those treats don't sound like good treats. :)

Herrings or salted licorice do not agree with me.

We never carried candles or lights and now that I think of it, that was pretty dumb!
