Goldilocks and the Three Be....

So. I had no idea how to join Elle on day 18 with Goldilocks. And those three bears.

But then I found porridge in the supermarket!!
Nothing us Germans are used to and certainly I had to give it a go.

You wonder how I come to the fairy tale?
Not at all!!!!

Some Germans drive me nuts.

A Bär is what you call a bear. OK?
Beeren are fruits/nuts, like bear #1: raspberry, bear #2: blueberry, bear #3: strawberry.

BEE.. not BÄ. Drives me nuts. They pronounce it wrong!
There are some words like that, please, people, speak clearly!
Or, note to self... just take it, you know what they mean.

But if you´re no native speaker it can get confusing!!!
Cause there are also "Beeren" that are poisonous, whilst the non-toy "Bären" are dangerous.

This porridge has three Beeren.
Hence... here you go!

My T said he doesn´t even know what porridge is, LOL (I told him to not buy it, it tasted awful! Maybe like Vegemite/Marmite, grow up with that or let go!).

Porridge is cooked rolled oats, usually in water, stirred and simmered until very soft and getting thick. A quicker version is "quick oats" they are small flakes of oats that cook faster. I cook my quick oats in the microwave with half and half water and milk and a little brown sugar. In the microwave on the second highest setting for 1 minute and 40 seconds. I know you don't have a microwave, (I think?)
Anyway, start with a little liquid and add more if needed while cooking. If you start with too much liquid you have to add more oats and then you end up with enough porridge to feed an army, or three bears. After mine is cooked I add a teaspoon of "Malt Extract" which is a syrup made from barley and full of B vitamins. I have this every morning from childhood, except my teenage years when I ate other cereals, weet-bix and cornflakes.

LOL, I really do think you need to grow up with this!

I ate it (and, yes, it says warm or cold! Indeed!). I think I will not repeat it, at least not that brand.

Our microwave really died after 37 years the other week and since last Thursday we have a new one, again a Miele.
But... I cannot imagine that porridge will get better when warm!!
It was... the texture alone, brrr.
Not as bad as raw fish, but nothing for me!
But... if you don´t try you never know, right?
I ate both so Ingo didn´t have to "go through this" ;-)

Ah porridge, be still my heart <3 I eat it nearly every day Iris lol But then it is a traditional Scottish food, we grow oats here, it's a major crop. But there are many ways to eat it. The traditional Scottish way is to make it with water, and add salt, then when it is cooked and in your bowl, add runny cream on top. That way is delicious. But then Americans also eat porridge though they tend to call it "oatmeal". There are also sweet ways of eating it which I used to think were blasphemy haha. Add raisins, or banana when cooking it, or add maple syrup on top when it's in the bowl, or add milk instead of cream. Oats are very good for you and fill you up too. Anyway, enough about porridge, thanks for your Goldilocks inspired page and bear story. Thanks for joining me for the October theme at Art Journal Journey this month Elle/Empire of the Cat xx

LOL, never did I expect any answer/comment on this!
I think your porridge is like our Grünkohl, or Labskaus!
ATM I have "pimped" Kaasspätzle.

Food!
To imagine some go hungry and we have so much! And such a variety!

We are so lucky! xx

I was wondering how porridge actually tastes. But how fun you saw porridge in the market. And nice drawings, both of them. I like the thumbs up strawberry the best. What an expression. Thanks for joining us at AJJ Iris. This is a clever take on Goldilocks and the 3 bears. hugs-Erika

I have porridge every morning with a sliced apple, blueberries, walnuts, raisins and dried apricots. I love it.

Reckon, hence, you grew up with that?

Such a fun post! I love your 3 “beeren.” Super cute! I don’t think I’ve every tried porridge either. But I know vegemite is pretty awful. :D

Oats need to be cooked until they are soft and creamy, otherwise you might as well eat cold dry muesli.

I love your Three Bears - such a good story for Elle's AJJ theme.

As for porridge - I wonder if you had an instant variety - now, some of those can be dreadful! Porridge cooked with an equal amount of oats, milk and water ( measured in a cup), stirred until boiling with a wooden spoon over a medium heat can be delicious when served with honey or maple syrup drizzled over and even better with other additions. Elle suggested a few.I sometimes add a spoonful of miso paste when its just coming to the boil - stir it in well. Cold porridge? - no, no, no! Hugs,Chrisx
