Haunted House

I join Rain today with yummy, quick dinner (well, again it was lunch) and  Haunted House ...
I think it was 1998.
I came from uni and my flatmates asked me if I wanna join going inside the old Sülte.

Bet I will!

Dropped my stuff and on we went, just us 3 girls, the only male was too afraid maybe but at least knew where we were going.
See, back then students had no mobile phones...

The windows of the cellar were closed/bricked up as it was ruinous so via big "Räuberleiter" (I was on flatmate´s shoulders, it was that high) we made our way in, me as smallest first, the second took... 20 minutes to follow (she was not sportive).

I was all alone - or not? 👻 - in the old asylum!!!
The door behind me was... missing. Turn around once....buhhhhhh..... And then I had to lean out of the window again and again to grab flatmate #2...

Gosh, we were young and I was not involved in the planning. On my question how many torches and if enough batteries I just got question marks!
(One torch, battery-status unknown).

The walls in that green that drives you nuts... broken stairs we went up (or I wait... alone till they come back, NO WAY!).
The dark cellar was the creepiest.

It was SPOOKY!!!! Spooky fun!
But never was I that relieved to jump out of a window!

Now, did that make you hungry?
Here is a quick´n easy recipe, a cheater, a bit:

Get ready to go Käsespätzle.
Not a Northern dish, wiki says: "Käsespätzle (German for "spätzle with cheese", also called Käsknöpfle in Vorarlberg and Liechtenstein or Kasnocken in Tyrol) is a traditional dish of the German regions of Swabia, Baden and Allgäu, and also in the Austrian regions Vorarlberg and Tyrol, as well as Liechtenstein and Switzerland."

  • Take a pan, throw in a bit of oil and bacon-pieces, the lean ones. Let them get yummy and crispy
  • add the "noodles", let them brown a bit
  • meanwhile grate some good cheese
  • take a cup, throw in a good egg (market day is a good idea)
  • pepper and, if you made horribly hot cheddar-cheese-chili-cookies, take a third along. A third of such a cookie really is enough, my, they came from hell!
  • Crumble in, add the cheese
YUM.

Scary how easy this is!

You were very brave when you were young. No way will I go in alone.

LOL, wasn´t my plan, either, I thought the next is as quick as I was!

There was supposedly a haunted house near where I lived growing up. A house at the end of a long driveway through the woods. The older kids said a witch lived in the house. I don't know any kid that went down the driveway to even look at the house. We just stood at the end of the driveway with our knees knocking in fear. And now I wonder if the older woman who lived in the house, knew what we kids called her.

CJ, OH! That poor woman!!!!
I had a neighbor like that. Some, when lonely at age get real mean, she was one of them. Plus black hair and a big nose.
At first I tried to help her, but it was of no use...
It was a one-room flat and she went at Ingo on weekends and also at my Brother (and certainly me)...
Yet.... I felt a bit sorry for her.
The "smell" of her always open apartment was real bad, too.
I hope come such a stage I trip and am dead.

Gillena, so much could´ve gone wrong, LOL!
Had the dish today again (and tomorrow, Ingo wouldn´t like it).

Nicole,... I think I would do it again!
Both, asylum and food ;-) To a great day!

I love those spatzel dishes. Over 100 years ago, Swabians from Germany moved to our area of Michigan, and their food traditions have been here ever since, so we can eat various spatzels at the local German restaurants. Plus my daughter’s family has their own traditions from Augsburg. Both use hand-made spatzel. Wonderful!

Today autocoorect things we both wrote about the same thing: it wants to change spatzel to spatula. No.

Christine, yes, its was spooky and enjoy the food sometime.

Mae, LOL Spatula and Spätzle, fun - cause I use a spatula for turning them!!!
My flatmate was from South Germany and made them by hand, too!
He added onions, too.

It will still be tomorrow... Bad when your Hubby doesn´t like your food ;-)
You are doomed to eat it all week!

You were much braver than I ever was! I used to check under my bed at night if I had even watched something slightly spooky :)

Looks like a nice and tasty lunch. I would not like to go in a haunted place by myself, too creepy and who knows what lurks inside.

Iris Flavia said...

Margaret, I disagree! THAT is brave to have a look yourself! I´d asked somebody else to heck (and eventually get grabbed)! ;-)

____

Bill, yes, maybe other real humans were in there, also!!! Or ghosts... Souls, who knows?!
Lat´s turn to yummy food instead!

Back in day, when I was in high school drama. The haunted homes let the drama students take part in scaring people.
Coffee is on and stay safe

What a great story you shared, Iris! You have a unique voice as a writer. I'm not sure I'd go into an asylum ~ lol! Thanks for sharing the story of your yummy looking dish. Happy weekend!

Rain, I would never say no! Old as we get, pffft!
I had the food all week long, I´m done for a while, but geez - it was yummy (Ingo won´t have it).

Fundy Blue, LOL, no idea how to interpret this, oh, my.
I cannot make up stories, so all I can write about is memories. Sad, kinda!
But anyways: Happy weekend, maybe more writing -stuff comes up!
Ingo bought Brussels Sprouts - season has begun, yay!!!

I visited the asylum where my great grandfather was an inmate several years ago and it was fascinating -- but it was a tour. I'm not sure what it would be like, three girls alone!
