Today I also join Elle from Empire of the Cat with "Fairytales, Folklore, & Fables - Tell Me A Story".
So. July 21st 1969 a little boy in Germany was dragged out of bed in the middle of the night.
Right in front of the tiny black/white TV to watch an Astronaut stepping down a latter and hitting the moon.
"So, what?! Why do you wake me in the middle of the night for a fairy tale, a comic, let me sleep!!"

Four-year-old Ingo was not amused and had no idea this was no fairy tale at all!
It must be hard to be a first-time-parent!
They likely waited for a huge "thank you! I saw the first man on the moon live on TV!!!!!"
Nope.
Just a quick sketch as I was making a Soljanka from scratch - a dish I first tasted in Magdeburg, former GDR, some years ago.
Tomorrow is a public holiday - we celebrate we are a united Germany.
Recipe to follow come Thursday. My parents didn´t even know each other back then, when the first step happened, btw.
But Ingo later, when I was still a kid, came to our house to watch the moon and the stars through a Celestron telescope with my Dad.
Our house. Sadly after Dad left thanks to cancer no one took care of the dome and it likely is rotten by now (Dad passed 2002).

... and the stars... two posts today, if you care, please scroll down or click here, if you came from Elle 😀 - it also has a bit to do with outer Space...

My problem in 1969 was: They landed and talked with mission control in Houston. I didn't understand anything, communication via radio is hard to understand for a 4 year old German boy ;-) But then nothing happened for a few hours. So I decided to visit "slumberland" where my parents got me out to the right time.
Poor boy, you 😉 - Henry would look like this!🐱🚀
Lovely story for Elle's theme at AJJ. It was not a fairy tale, though, as we all know.
One small step.
Elizabeth, for Ingo at age 4 it was!

Yes, the beginning...
It is hard to believe it has been so long since that first step and we've not really done all that much since. I remember where I was, too!
Things are a different experience for a child, aren't they lol
I love the dome, and now my husband wants one :) What fun that must have been!
Jeanie, where have you been then?
___
Divers and Sundry - it was awful.
Dad dragged Bro and me in cold nights, when there was little light pollution, out of bed to watch.
Tell your hubby to take you on a trip to Australia´s Outback instead!!!
I can't really remember where I was when he took the step.
So you were not dragged to the tV ;-)
What an awesome memory - that also made me laugh! Wonderful sketch!
Ingo likely was rather whiney... ;-)
I was working in a store back them and heard it on the radio.
The family sat and watched this event as it unfolded ... amazing.
All the best Jan
I must say that at the time it as happening it was hard to believe it was possible. I love your drawing and thanks for sharing you story of young Ingo. Hugs, Chrisx
This is fabulous Iris. I remember being allowed to stay up late to watch this historical moment. And this event has become folklore for certain. I am very excited to see you joining us at Art Journal Journey also. Thank you for joining us for Elle's challenge. Happy Sunday night. Hugs-Erika
Your father had his own Celestron Telescope? I am very impressed. Did you also look through it and see the stars and moon? Lucky Ingo.
Bill, how sad!!!
Though, Ingo said it was quite boring.. (for a 4-yo)

Jan, I only have Brian May´s 3-D-book! Maybe better even...
_---
Chris, it is still crazy to imagine with which little technology they went! Scary! And they do it again! To the brave, hugs! x

Erika, well, I was not in the making yet, but Brian May´s book makes up for it!!! Hugs from here!

River, yes, three. He was an optometrist and came by rather... "cheap"?
Yes. Dad dragged Bro and me out of bed in bitter-cold nights, cause only then you have little light pollution. I hated it!
But in your Outback... I got it all for free and in warmth!!!
That was nice to get Ingo to feel part of an historical moment, although at his age he wouldn't appreciate that of course.
Strange that since then nothing much has happened in space.
Love your spaceman and your story Iris. Ever see that movie "Capricorn One" from the 70s they were trying to fake a moon landing on that too. Good movie. Thanks for joining me for the October theme at Art Journal Journey this month Elle/Empire of the Cat xx
Sami, yes, sad, huh? But, really... call me old-fashioned. But I would rather see the work in fighting cancer and such on Earth...

Elle, no, I´ll ask Ingo if he knows the move!
Oh, boy, it´s not about the world is flat, is it? LOL...
