My parents didn´t know each other. Yet.
1963. Even Ingo´s parents had not met.
And now we know: 1963 Santa was 2000 years old (a kid asked in the docu). Big Niece has best grade in "math/calculus". She wrote a letter to the old man, ask her how old he is today, our Santa.
1972, the Christstollen came to West-Germany, as did I. As in "into the world".
My Mum´s Dad came from "the Russians" in 1944 or such, loooong red beard (no shaving possible). I never met him, he died shortly after, Mum ran that day cause she did not recognize him, imagine that now really "poor" man, Daughter running after you managed all the pain?!
Ingo´s Great/Grandfather suffered the rest of their lives from the stupid wars.
My Dad´s Father never went to war yet died of a heart attack when my Dad was only 14.
East and West... they needed... loooong story... they wanted to meet their families. Just like now, thank you, "Corinna"! We again need those passes....
Well and this docu shows Christmas 1963.
People survived the stupid war, well, those who did - in East- and West-Germany, they tried to find a way to a better Christmas.
But...
Now my two cents... East and West are united. But there are no Christmas Markets this year. Corinna, you... Not here, not there and yes. There is still East and West in Germany.
Drive the Autobahn. You´ll feel it. The old Western ones bumping around suddenly AT THE MARK turn soft.
Well. that was 2011.
Maybe I should return to Island Rügen in the East and find out?
But reckon I´d cry my soul out.
We laughed our heads off, Mum, Bro and I.
Played board-games, tried to eat (Mum could not really, Cancer ate HER up), sat till 03 a.m., Bro and I, and then at 06 a.m. I got up to get breakfast for the three of us.
It was our last holiday together.
Stubborn as she was... she waited till end of December to really leave us, so maybe she thought, "HAHA, DAUGHTER, you can never skip Christmas because you are sad upon my leaving".
Mum.
Always the last word.
She died the day her youngest Brother had his Birthday and I was the dumbhead who had to call him.
Try not to cry...
Henry 🦁...

Oh, Iris what a sad ending your blog has today! I have loved all the old photos, but sometimes the past can be painful. 💔
I hope Henri will save time! 🦁

So sweet Big Niece now joins us! 🧡
Complicated memories.
The first time we went to Northern Ireland, the vibe was different, even though there's an open border. Now that Brexit has finally happened, there is increasing talk of a united Ireland. I suspect that if the island ever is united, it would be similar in some ways to what you describe between east and west there.
Painful memories for you. I am so sorry.
William, yes... we went through a lot.
____
Shari, yes, the Brexit. We never heard of that again.
History repeats itself... sadly we never learn. "We"...
My condolences have passed away for your mother, Irish.
Cultivate the belief that all of that is the best way that has been determined by God.
Trust me, your mother has been happy with God.
Himawan Sant, I hope she is. I miss her.... Thank you.
...a fun look back, I was in my last year of highschool.
Post to come on that? Would be great
It has to be tough to lose someone in December. It is tough anytime really, but December, with the holidays and the darkness. Last night my husband and I were watching a car show and they passed through your city. (I'd write the name but I know I would spell it wrong.) I said Iris lives there, and my husband looked at me like I was living in some alternative universe. I love being able to say I am acquainted with someone in different parts of the world. This show also mentioned the roads in the old East and West Germany. Funny you should write about it today. Hope you have a nice weekend. Hugs-Erika
Interesting what you said about the train going from hard to soft between East and West Germany. Too funny. To me, at least. I am sorry you lost your mother to cancer. It must have been very painful and difficult for her.
Past memories can be happy and sad. I was in the 5th grade back in 63. A sad ending when your mother died, so sorry.
Erika, yes but WOW, I had no idea of that show??
My Hubby now just nods and is like, yips, the sweet blogger-world (he means it like that).
Isn´t this all so crazy, I´d love to see your docu!
A happy weekend to you and hugs from here!!! xx

gigi, it was our car!
Yes, both parents... it´s always difficult and sad. Hurtful..
___
Bill, yes. Happy and sad, both. We even laughed in intensive care at times.
Together, Mum, Bro and I.
We have lost a lot of family members in Decembers past too. It can be a sad and happy time of year at the same time.
Yes. What more to say...
At times it's great to flip through memories and pictures.Happy New year and hope the year is brighter and brings memorable moments.
So sad to lose someone around Christmas. I hope things are more pleasant this year, dear. Memories can be sad or happy. The longer someone has been dead, the more good memories come out and the bad memories fade.
Memories can be painful sometimes, but I don't think any of us would want to be without them. Hugz xx
Memories are such a mixed bag, aren't they? The very good and happy ones shine; the harder ones are painful reminders of the past. I have had to tell someone a loved one died. It's a horrible task. And I understand the December death all too well from my dad.
I hope 2021 brings us much happier memories!
