Adventures Are Over

It´s been ages ago that we visited that zoo. And reckon we won´t for a long time.
"Closed until further notice"
Zoos in general suffer badly, no visitors, no money, but the animals have to get fed anyways, personel is needed and wants money, too...

Difficult times. And this is really a fun zoo.

Wish we were on the Oodnatatta Track for real.
Funny story, in the aftermath:

It was my turn to fill up our car in Oodnadatta. I went in to pay and the lady asked me where we´re going. "Direction Alice." If I can deliver some batteries to Alison, she needs them and the postie will be here only in 3 days. She put them in a brown paperbag and off we drove.
I stopped the car at the homestead and a dog came running, and  barking. No way, I´m like really afraid of dogs. But Ingo braved up and Alison was already on the way.
In the middle of nowhere there were two signs at the gate: "No junkmail" and "No Jehova´s witnesses" 🤣.

I drove on, found a place for the night. Next morning I wanted to drive further... battery-sign was on red! At least 340km through nothing or get back to Alison for help.
The moment we arrived her hubby and brother took off in a small plane, red dust everywhere.

Alison was willing to help, certainly, hooked her car on ours to reload the battery.
Dog. I wanted to stay in the car, but when it´s already over 40C outside that is a dumb idea of course, this takes a while.

Dog ran to me ... with a stick and wanted to play. I did not. He stepped on my feet as if to say "play or I bite!", so I obeyed and played in over 40C fetch for a loooong time, Alison thought I´m having fun! At one point it was unclear if it was saliva with red dust or blood dripping from the stick.

With a huge Hammer Ingo hit the bullbar, as the mechanic from Oodnadatta  said (Alison called him) and the dust went off, all clear.
Long story short: In the evening Ingo told me that was an attack dog I´d played with! Luckily the dog didn´t know this! 😉

Well but now we are stuck:

 We...

Well, I do. Ingo is "allowed" to drive to work to Salzgitter still.
Henry 🦁? He can´t believe it...

This is for "Tom´s Signs 2".

OOOh that's quite a story. Australia, a dog, batteries...
Yesterday our lockdown has been extended for three weeks.

Iris Flavia said...

MB, thank you.

Bertiebo, a flat tyre was involved, too, but then it would´ve been an endless story ;-)
YIKES. Here they think of even extending till Easter!

Fetch at +40? I would not even be conscious in that kind of heat. Now -40, no problem! :-)

Henry is looking good!

Your Australian adventures are always beautiful!
I would love to see Mad Max running through the desert! LOL

Shari, -40C, I´d be a block of ice! Reckon we wnn´t go on holiday together! ;-)

Ella, well, that day with the dog was rather not so beautiful 😉
Ingo has the movies here - too brutal for my liking... But you are right, it must´ve been so funny, because the moment you get out of the car the blowies get you!
So when you see an Aussie waving he likely does not mean you but hushes the little darn flies away. And they come back immediately, too. Some attack your nose, others the eyes and then there are lip-flies. They need the moisture.
I hope he was in the car, maybe I should watch the movie after all! 🤣
I think rather from disappointment, he is blue...

I feel sorry for the zoos :(
What a funny story on your trip to Oodnadatta and the friendly people you met along the way.
Would love to visit the Bungle Bungles that I have just seen on tv.
Poor Henry, feeling blue :)

I didn´t laugh so much 😉
That darn dog was quick, it was a lot of throwing on my side whilst Ingo chatted with Alison...
Yes, the Bungle Bungles were Impressive - but in Kununurra (Kimberly) you find the mini-Bungle-Bungles.

We've been locked down since November but yesterday we were issued a state of emergency stay at home order for another month. I get it and am fine with it but it seems too little too late. Hospitals are filled to overflowing.

You always have such wonderful stories. The last zoo I visited was with my daughter and SIL in Washington DC 3 years ago. We also visited the White House that day. It was truly a breath taking view as we walked through Lafayette Square. Have a truly wonderful day today.

Jackie, I totally agree, waaay too late!

That dog would have scared me, too. I would have stayed in the car if possible.

I laughed, great story. Now that dog memory is with your forever, you'll always be playing fetch. :) Go get em, Ace! :)

I know it wasn't funny at the time but I had to laugh at you playing with the dog so it would leave you alone. (Rule one with a dog -- the more you play, the more it will hang around!). Love the wombat sign!

I live in Australia but have never been to Alice Springs, nor seen Uluru (Ayers Rock). I did live on a sheep station in the outback for about three months when I was 16, doing the cooking and cleaning in the main house. it was very isolated, as places like that always are, the main attraction was the mail train that came every fortnight, we would drive for miles and then wait for its arrival, the mail bag was exchanged and we got to buy things from the "shopping" carriage if we wanted anything. I always bought magazines, because they didn't carry books for sale and there weren't many books in the main house, only a bible and some old fashioned stories that I didn't care for. The best part was watching the moon come up in the evenings, way out there on the flatlands it looked huge and was always a big orange glow in the sky like a fire coming before the moon actually showed.

That's quite a story. It's hard to know about 'strange" or unknown dogs -if they are friendly or not. But never show fear. Dogs know that and get more aggressive. Good for you to play stick with the dog.

Iris Flavia said...

Jeanie, yes, in the aftermath it was funny and the rule I got, LOL!

____

River, you cooked and cleaned on a farm at age 16?! My respect! Yes, we also always enjoyed the Outback-night-sky immensly! I miss it. My Brother once made the Southern Cross for a chain for me. In the cellar he wanted to polish it on the machine and since it was so small, poooof, it flew away.
My Brother, Mum and I were on our knees looking for it but never found it.
DUMB, reckon it didn´t land on the floor but in some item, didn´t think of that back then. Sad.
____

Erika, I could not help it, but at least I didn´t look it in the eye...
