Pack Your Bathing Trunks

Here is an example of how art can win over criticism after all.
This is Ringerbrunnen.
In the very cool 70´s the city decided they want to have a fountain again at Sack.

They asked sculptor Jürgen Weber to do the job and he thought of the clever hero Heracles and the giant Antaeus in a wrestling match (Ringer = wrestler).

In 1973 they put the fountain up and weee.... there was a huge outrage!

How on earth can someone come up with the idea to put up two naked men who show their genitals to passers-by on a route school kids take, too?!

What did Weber do?
He put them in bathing trunks - with the names of the critics written on them!
Fast forward to August 15th 1975, the fountain is covered in a white linen and when that falls... people standing in "that sight" start laughing!

It says in the book on the legs you find the words "art" and "criticism" (we couldn´t find them, though).
And what a clever idea, too!

The giant ("criticism") is unbeatable - unless by clever art!
