Respect?

Sometimes I wonder about people.
Found this...

... on FB and, no, I did not steal this pic, it´s a screenshot taken from my very own screen.

2002 we visited Cuba for the first time together.
The people, the "staff" there live from tips, so in Germany we went to our bank and got enough American 1-Dollar notes.

Whilst others planned in money for buying big stuff - which also helps the people there, and yes, we brought home some souveniers like this coco-taxi:

Or these two:

... we planned in money for tips, and we did some lille origami instead of just "throwing" it in the tips-glas like that.

Our maid, Midiala, left us thank you notes...

And beautiful creations, too!

As I sadly at school could choose only between French and Latin (and knew I´ll never be a doctor or lawyer), I choose French and we had trouble to really talk, but she said she never has anything to do in our room :-)

Respect? No, that´s how we are. When we come from the beach we use the water at the front of the hotel to clean our feet from the sand at the georgous beach and why would I ever smash my clothes on the floor?
We used but one bed, too, so, when we came back 2006 we even got this:

And, yes, we added a pic from last time, also.

The people live from this! From the tips, and they found joy in our way to give it to them, this is fun for both sides!

Last time we came US Dollars were forbitten, they had Pesos Convertibles, a currency for tourists.
Usually coins. Some just threw them in the tip glass with so little respect, it was a pain.

We went to the bank in Varadero together... uhhhh, don´t you dare!!!
Only Ingo was allowed to go to the teller, I had to wait at the wall (there were seats, certainly!!).
Ingo needed my help, we wanted not coins but notes!
WHY??

I made a shirt from a euro-note, they smiled and from that day on we were allowed to go to the teller together to get our Pesos-notes back - you could see they´ve been shirts/bows before :-)

That last time... I seldom used handbags. I forgot mine the first night after a long flight, the safe did not work, I had our passports, all our money, Ingo´s expensive cam in there.
Only in the restaurant I realised, I forgot the bag at the bar!!!! First day!!!!

The bartender´d taken care of it, cause he remembered us (no convertibles to give, yet).

Only twice I went to get something from the cook, but I always said hello, good-bye and gave tips.
Isn´t that normal?!!!

When we left for good he pushed the food to the side (so it doesn´t get burned) to come to me and hug me, so sweet, and my, I hate to be a point of interest!!! LOL

I don´t get it.

It was "all inclusive" and people shoveled masses of food on their plates, leaving half of it - the Cuban people ... they struggle(d? This was 2010 and back then they were poor).

I once - and how dumb can you (I, in that case) be??? I took:

... in Cuba!! They were awful, but I ate them.
Another time they had a quiche, soooo yummy! Next day there were left-overs and I took two pieces.
They were so darn salty I could not eat them, by any means. Woosh, staff came rushing by. If something is wrong. Because I only ever take what I eat.

Is that respect? No? Yes? It´s being a friendly, thinking person, right?
That´s also how we were found by our Canadians.

We shared a table of two, Ingo and I and.. well, the food, right, not a mountain.
A young woman came over and asked if we speak English and invited us over - her Mum is Ingo´s age and we had so much fun the entire holiday together.
They tipped, they had only on their plates what they planned to eat.

I think it´s common sense and it´s sad to see such a "hint" at FB...

On a lighter note...

No Lion of the day "in respect" to Cuba... (ohhhh, the ocean!!!)

Addendum to last post!!!! I thought this song, " A Walk In The Park" was a worldwide hit!!!
It was not!!!!
Ingo listens to "old people´s" radio and told me - it was their only hit - in Germany, Switzerland and Austria only!!
Care for a "new" earworm?
Here goes:

...respect is lacking in today's life! That '55 or '56 Ford is a flash from the past.

I love the photo of you and Ingo by the sea and it was fascinating to hear of your trip to Cuba. We can't go there anymore, I don't think, on a US Passport. It opened for a bit but I think it closed again. It sounds like you two had a wonderful time. When Rick and I travel and especially to other countries, we are particularly careful to be "good Americans" and not "ugly Americans" for two reasons -- first, it's just the right thing to do. But also, America is in such a mess lately and for many reasons much of the world hates us, but I don't want them to hate US as people or so many others, because we're not too fond of what is happening in our country, either.

I also respect people from all walks of life and try to be a good tourist. Your origami creations are beautiful. I still have the ones Ingo and you gave me :)

magiceye, thank you, I hope it goes as normal - and if not, guess my Nieces will be the same :-)

Jeanie, haha, I think this goes for all countries. And this is what I meant, too!
A French one I know hides being French when he meets "stupid French people" and oh so often I hid my roots, too.

It´s sad we see "a country" and not the person!

And I do believe blogging helps a bit here :-)

It´s Merkel or Trump, they somehow made it, but they no longer represent the people!

Just look at all of us bloggers :-)

Sami, oh, what? Yes, the xmas-origami :-) Thank you :-)
See, that´s why I refuse to use your flower-soap!
I think we´re good people (and also good tourists, too).

I apologize for being so far behind in my visit. I'm in catch-up mode, although I may never catch up.

I am so glad you shared this, Iris. So many countries hate us in the U.S. because of Trump. I refuse to call him our president. I believe everyone should be respectful, but I've had waiters treat me like I was dirt under their feet, or even a bit of gum under their feet. I always made sure I kept everything in drawers when I went to a hotel. That way there was not much the maid had to clean. I DID let them make my bed because I hate making beds, but I do it every day.

I am glad you are a good representative of your country. Feel free to come visit me any time, too!

Elizabeth, I understand (both) - our chancellor is an embarrasment, also!
And well... no, I have not had such waiters (yet).

The maid did our bed, and all the figures :-)

I´ve never been to the US... where exactly are you?

I'm absolutely a 'treat others how you would like to be treated yourself' kind of person Iris, makes the world a much nicer place 💙

I so agree, Grace, we need no hints like that on FB or anywhere!
